I am hoping someone can help me or at least shed some light on my symptoms. I have been feverously looking into finding out what I have been battling my HMO to send me to tests. I am 26 years old and I started getting lower abdominal pain on my right side a year and a half ago. IT was diagnosed as a ab muscle wall tear. The pain went away after 4 months. Recently I started being treated for Gastritis with Prilosec, when I stopped having my reflux, my lower right ab pain came back. It usually comes on when I am sitting up right or walking and hurts from just below my rib cage to all the way below my belly button. I had a CT scan and an Ultra Sound and it all looks fine, I have also had liver enzyme and gall blader tests and they are normal. I am in constant pain that seems to be getting worse and I am worried about Colon Cancer. I have no bleeding, although I did experience pink mucus one time while I was on Prilosec, but have not had it since coming off of the medicine. I have been looking at possibilities like Chron's and Colitis, but I have no Diarriah and no blood. Would colon cancer show up in a CT Scan after a year? Please help me.

Colon cancer is usually seen during a colonoscopic exam. A really bad case like tumors and such can show up with a CAT scan but normally it doesn't.

Crohn's disease does usually cause right sided pain since it begins alot of times in the last part of the small intestines.

There are many disorders that can produce right sided pain -- my biggest problem in that area is cramping and spasms caused by GAS.

My pain is pretty constant throughout the day. It went away for many months and then came back. Originally the pain started a year ago and was so bad I went to the emergency room. Then after a couple months it stopped completely. More recently the pain has come back and is steadily getting worse.

I have an endoscopy on 1/7, and hopfully can add on a colonoscopy.

Gabe,
Sorry about your Pain!!!

I have had pain on the right side since October, 1997. Many tests were run ---had gallbladder removed and had 2 1/2 feet of my colon removed because of diverticular bleeding.

It still comes and goes and is usually helped by an antibiotic taken for about 10 days. It goes away and now I have had it since Nov.17 but I'll go to the Doc and he'll poke around -- ending up giving me an antibiotic and sometimes the antibiotic will cause a yeast problem with many and varied symptoms --- it has to be dealt with.

Your problem could be a hernia, appendix problem, colitis, spasms cramping. And, as my doc has said sometimes we just can't find the problem.

An excellent homeopathic remedy for cramping and spasms is Magnesia Phos. --- you can buy it at a health food store and find out if it works in several hours!!! A worthwhile effort -- it's cheap and if its works you'll know!!!

The last tests I had done were an abdominal ultrasound and blood work to check my liver enzymes, for anemia and gall bladder. Everything came back normal. So at this point I am stumpped. Also, my appetite is especially good these days, I am just as hungry at 26 as I was at 15.

One other symptom is I go to the bathroom about 5 times a day with solid bowl movements, but they are either thin or small pieces. Is there any kind of condition where someone digests their food too fast? Are there any parasites that cause pain in the colon / intestinal area (lower right)?

Gabe,
With that type of BMs it sounds like you need to drink more water and take a water soluble fiber supplement to bulk up your stools and clean out your intestines. Metamucil or Equate from Wal Mart that contains psyllium will do just fine. Just make sure you start off with a half dose and progress to 2 doses daily.

Take enough water with each dose, and it will produce GAS until your system gets use to it. This material-- is a bowel regulator so it works just as well for diarrhea as it does for constipation to forms stools.

I don't very much about parasites and the pains they cause???
