26 year-old, I have been diagnosed as having Chronic Pelvic Pain by my doctor. Semen and urine tests have been done but no bacteria found.

I have taken doxycycline, Cipro and levoflox for periods ranging from 3 weeks to 2 months. I have the following questions regarding antimicrobial resistance:

1) How does that occur exactly? Can repeated use of the same antibiotic cause resistance in the bacteria?

2) What does repeated use of antimicrobials negatively impact the body? I hear about creating resistant strains but what does that mean in layman's terms? (I have never suffered any serious side effects of mid-term use (2 months) use of antibiotics.

I am so frustrated with this condition that I feel that continuign antimicrobial usage may be worth the risk in order to take a shot at what may be an occult infection!
