The best sleeping pills I can take.
I do take small amounts of xanax, but it hasn't helped me sleep much.
I want to call my Dr. today to get some stronger sleeping pills that hopefullly aren't addicting. Just for the next week or two.
I didn't know where to ask this either. So many have so much medical knowledge around here.
I have a buriel tomorrow and a memorial service Saturday. Friends are family are around, but without sleep I feel worse and even more emotional, almost physically sick.
Thanks, Annie
If this should be moved just tell me.

Hi Annie,
I am so, so sorry for the loss of your son. I can only imagine what agony you are going through right now, my thoughts are with you. You might ask your doctor for Ambien. It is supposed to be non-addicting if you just use it occasionally. I use it and it works for me.
Take care,
Holst

Annieof5, my heart goes out to you. I lost my son 17 years ago on Dec. 20, 1986. I know what you are going through. I just want you to know I am thinking of you.
I hope your medicine works, I don't know anything about it.
Hugs, annie6

Restoril 7.5 mg, 15 mg and 30 mg Capsules: Active Ingredient: Temazepam
Restoril 7.5 mg Capsules: Inactive Ingredients: FD&C Blue #1, FD&C Red #3, gelatin, lactose, magnesium stearate, sodium lauryl sulfate, synthetic red ferric oxide, and titanium dioxide. May also include: benzyl alcohol, butylparaben, edetate calcium disodium, methylparaben, propylparaben, silicon dioxide, sodium propionate, and another ingredient
Restoril is used for the relief of insomnia (difficulty in falling asleep, waking up frequently at night, or waking up early in the morning). It belongs to a class of drugs known as benzodiazepines.(isn't that what xanax is?
Sleep problems are usually temporary, requiring treatment for only a short time, usually 1 or 2 days and no more than 2 to 3 weeks. Insomnia that lasts longer than this may be a sign of another medical problem. If you find you need restoril medicine for more than 7 to 10 days, be sure to check with your doctor.

hope it works.

Oh that helps. Thanks.
Probably I'll just continue with the xanax, since it is a benzo too. I've noticed the xanax wears off so fast though.
The actual presription is for my husband and later he may need something, so I think I'll get it filled anyway.
I took a xanax at 10 last night slept straight through till 4 am. Then could feel the shakes and sadness set in, but at least I got 6 hours.
I'm gonna take another one hour before his burial.
I've had people tell me to not "numb up" so you can heal and cry. I thought that was stupid, because I've been crying more then ever. All xanax does is keep my heart from popping out of my chest and relaxes me so my muscles don't ache. Some people just don't understand. They think you are being doped up to the zombie state I guess.
I really appreicate all the facts on meds. I don't have the energy to research.
We burial our son today. Its dark, its raining and its Christmas eve. How depressing is that?
God will help me get through.
God bless you all for your loving words of support.

God be with you and your family today and in the days ahead. Find strength in Him. Two years ago, we lost our 8 year old nephew to a tragic accident. Spend time with family and know they share your pain, they can never truly know the depth of your pain, but they do feel it. My brother was on anti-depressants since it happened two years ago and he is going to wean off them now. You may need them also. They will not make you a zombie and not feel anything, they will help you manage each day without feeling overwhelmingly sad. Don't be afraid to call someone anytime to talk. You may not feel like it now, but you will. One thing that I found hard was that sometimes I got emotional and tried to hold it in because I didn't want to get my brother, his wife, or their other son upset. But it's okay. People need to show emotion. We all heal together.

I feel so sorry for your loss, my prayers are with you.
You might also suggest an antipsychotic to your doctor, as they can be very helpful in people who are having trouble sleeping due to emotional problems. Although not "classic" sleep medicines, they do two things 1) "Turn off" the mind, and 2) for the first week or two of taking them, they can cause a good amount of drowsiness. This combination may be what you need.
Good luck and best of wishes.

Restoril is used to treat insomnia. Granted, I'm no doctor, but you know that your problems sleeping are related to your son, not insomnia. (so, why put you on Restoril?!?) Ok, really, insomnia, related to your son, but not insomnia, in itself. Doctors don't always listen to the problems.
What is a small amount of xanax? .25 mg? Typical for sleep disorder, but you don't have a sleep disorder, your upset about a traumatic event, right?! That doesn't do much at all. The largest pill is 3mg as far as I know. I am on 1mg when I need it.
My grandfather died this year and I was there when he died. I took three 1 mg tablets while he was dying. I actually fell asleep. (Fortunately, I woke up before he died). I regret falling asleep, but I mentioned it to make it clear how well they can relax you.
Anyway, xanax will knock you out and lessen the pain. This is obviously just my opinion, but let the pain happen. I drugged myself through my grandfather's death and when I finally stopped taking the drugs, I broke down often. Use them for sleeping, maybe for a rough day or two, but let the healing happen naturally.
Anyway, IMHO, you need anti-anxiety drugs, not insomnia drugs, so Ambien and other drugs used to treat insomnia aren't going to help much. I've been dealing with insomnia for years and I can tell you that while these drugs do help you sleep, they do NOTHING for anxiety or your emotional state. A lot of the insomnia drugs work on the histamine response, which makes you drowsy. However, no matter how drowsy someone may be, if they are too pumped up to sleep, it's not going to help.

Thanks for your input.
Yes you are right. Emotional trauma is different from regular insomnia.
I'm up to taking .1 a day. It has been helping. I feel i could take more. I wake up at 3 am everymorning and try to get by without more, but and crying and depressed so bad I take another .25 to get back to sleep.
Its been hard managing the meds when emotionally I'm a rollarcoster.
Its been nine days now. The shock and numbing is wearing down and I feel the anger and depression setting in.
I've decided to just stay on my regular amount of xanax .1 mg a day for at least a couple of months.
I just can't have my panic attacks return, and I just have to be functionable for my other kids.
Thanks all for the support.

I am very sorry for the loss of your son. I read that writing out your feelings might help if you can't sleep.
