VAP stands for Vertical Auto Profile, the methodology used for the test.

Sorry..it sound something like a standing cardiac MRI or some such...
I know nothing about it!

(My joke would have involved an engine tuning in a Volvo)

Maybe someone else?

What do you think about that VAP cholesterol test? I heard it was a really incredible test and very affordable, even to those of us without health insurance. Does anybody out there have any info they could give me on it?

lipidprofiler,

I think the VAP just has to do with the separation of the various cholesterol subtypes (LDL, VLDL, HDL, IDL) into further subclasses of each based on particle sizes. The predicative ability can then be summarzied by overall pattern type of A vs. B. If you do a search on either "VAP test" or "NMR lipoprofile" you will get a bunch of information on the breakdown of these. I have had the NMR lipoprofile analysis done a few times now, with measurement of Lp(a), homocysteine, and hs-CRP. All of these are just predicative markers.
