What do you think of live blood analysis. Do you think it's for real or just a way of making you spend your money?

Though I'm hardly any fan when it comes to some things connected with the medical establishment, blood tests are very real and will detect specific problems in the body and often long before they create any symptoms.

The blood test I'm reffering to is the one given by a naturopath or someone in a similar field that take a drop of blood from your finger and by putting that under a microscope and video can tell you possible reasons for your ailments.

I've had a few done. Based on how I was feeling and what I took to rectify some health problems, my tests appeared to be accurate and very helpful.
The boys from Quackwatch will warn you against this quackery, citing poor practice and protocol (e.g. dirty slides, insufficient or too much blood drawn) as reasons.
Find a good practitioner (now that's easy isn't it?) and you can get good, cheap results.

That Quackwatch site is just dreadful. It can put you off anything natural or alternative for life. For some reason, they seem to have this idea that nothing but conventional medicine works and that all practitioners have to be qualified MD's to be able to practice anything properly at all.
I have to say that I was really quite offended by what I read on the site recently about acupuncture and homeopathy. It was very derogatory and too narrow minded for my tastes. Think I'll stick with what I know!!

It wasn't too long ago that it was believed that gastric ulcers were all caused by stress and inflammation you had to eat a bland diet and take an anti acid--- all MDs were taught this for 75 years or so.
In 1982 H.pylori was dicovered by A Dr. Barry Marshall in Perth, Australia and he determined that it causes 85% of all peptic ulcers. It took him 12 years to convince the Medical Establishment like those on Quackwatch that you can cure ulcers with antibiotics. Some Doctors still don't believe It. At the time Tagamet and Prolosec type drugs were the #1 sellers --- some are now sold OTC. But, it was about Drug sales!!!
The Medical Field I think is really controlled by the Drug Industry that's why Alternaive Medicine is frequently put down ---- you can't make money with homeopathy remedies, nutrition( vitamins &supplements), acupuncture, herbal medicine---- the remedies and procedures cannot be patterned like drugs.
I am thankful that we have both but they need to be equally managed and recognized.
My thoughts--- Harry

Hi all,
I know there's the conventional blood tests, but I did not know there is a test given by an ND that can show possible causes for problems..I'm definitely interested in something like that. Getting kind of off the subject, are stool sample analysis tests effective in detecting problems (specifically, digestive problems)? I certainly dont want to go through the barium test or an endoscopy to find out what's going on in my stomach!

A stool analysis is a collection of your stools over about a three day period and would be carried out by either an ND or a Nutritional Therapist. From these stools they can tell what nutrients you are missing and the compositon of your stomach acids and whether you have too much or too little.
They may also want you to keep a food diary to see what you are eating exactly over a 5 day period and following this, they will be able to recommend dietary changes, nutritional supplements and any digestive enzymes that you are lacking. These are helpful in leaky gut syndrome, that a lot of people these days seem to have and can be caused by taking too many other drugs that break down the lining of the stomach and then let things through that should not be coming through, thus causing stomach problems such as GERD.
Hope this helps? Go for it if you can, as it could be very helpful.

BCA, yes stool tests can help diagnose all types of digestive problems include bacterial and fungal infections, low probiotic levels, etc. As I remember someone once saying, every time you leave the stall, you're flusing away the best [health] diagnostic tool there is.

Wow, thanks alot Sarah and Sue, I really appreciate the responses. I didn't know stool samples could detect so many problems in the body. This is something I would definitely like to try (If I can even find an ND in this area!) I am especailly interested in finding out if I'm lacking sufficient digestive enzymes or have an irregular probiotic level. Thanks again!
