First of all I went back to my GI doctor and he flat out said that he thought I had AIDS and that I might have the wasting syndrome because I am just losing weight and have decreased appetitie for no reason. The thing is I've never had intercourse or performed oral on anybody ( I told the DR. that too). But I decided to check up on the wasting syndrome and it mentioned diarehhia and weakness which I do not have at all.
I've noticed over the last couple days that when I drink water I start to feel really weird. And one time my body temperature dropped to 96.6 for hours and I felt like I was freezing. My urine for the last several months comes out rather slow. There is no pain or anything. I've had my urine tested once and it came back normal. Whenever I see my doctor he looks at me in a real suspicious way (as if he thinks I am taking drugs, boozing, starving myself) That is a REAL negative belief to have especially since he doesnt' even ask me any questinos about his suspicions. He only looks at me really strange. I did do some research and I thought I might have pancreatitus. The protein drinks I've been drinking have been showing up in my BM. The same exact vanilla color and rarely I have pale stripes in my stool. There is most likely a fat/portein malabsorption problem and I am wondering WHY the GI doctor didn't do a fecal matter test??? Will he find everything with a CT scan??
Anyways after I explained to him about my non-sexualness he said that I should have a CT scan as soon as possible because he thinks it might be an organ problem. But what kind of organ problem? He didn't say! Even when I asked. Well I am a bit scared and worried that I might have cancer or some bad illness. I am having only slight pains like fullness after eating for hours, some sharp pains here and here, but most important losing weight and feeling weird after and during eating or drinking fluids. Does anybody have any idea what my problem could be? I also would like to know how everybodys CT scan (if you had one) went? Did that iodine shake taste horrible, ok or great? And anything else you'd like to tell me. My CT scan is this week too so respond quickly.
thank you for you help
P.S. Yes I've had an upper endoscopy done on me and it came back normal.
Also somebody mentioned that I might have tons of stress. I don't think that is the case as I see a liscened therapist once a week and neithier of us think it is a stress problem. I have never been ILL, SICK or anything whenever I had a lot of stress. The only thing I used to do was be a nervous eater and eat a lot of food when I was stressed or rant and rave (like a jerk) compulsively. I don't feel stressed ONLy very worried for my life and desering to preserve as much life and health as possible.

First of all --- I think you need to find another Doctor that will listen to you. I understand your feeling all too well.
For some reason I have found Gastrointestinal Doctors are not good diagnostitions. I have seen 7 different ones in the last 10 years and if I had to go to one now-- I would not go to any of them. I almost bled to death with chronic bleeding diverticular -- coming out in clots and 3 Gastro doctors did not want me to go to the ER. Well I went and passed out onthe toilet 1 hour later.
My Internist thinks I lost about half my blood that night ---well I had 2 1/2 feet of my colon removed about 2 weeks later but if I had listened to the Gastro Doctors --- on several occasions ---I would not be writing this message NOW. A shot of vitamin K stopped the bleeding that time.
I really don't trust them --- for some reason ever since the development of the scopes used for testing -- I think their abilities have gone to Hell in a hand basket. I really cannot express my true feelings on this public forum but it's not Good.
There are several tests that could be conducted to see how things are functioning. A stomach empting test and a small bowel follow through --both test your ability to pass food into your intestines for proper absorption.
A CT scan can tell alot and is very worthwhile. I have them done annually for the pass 10 years to see if several Masses one on my pancreas and adrenal gland has changed. Also, I have an aorta that is slighly enlarged that has not changed in 4 years. I pass a little protein in my urine but my kidney are the same. They look at the size, shape and if they are normal--- and alot of things but as you know they can't test any organ's functioning abilities.
You will be given Barium sulphate to drink before the test --- here you drink one 12 ounce size the night before testing and half of another an hour before testing then some when you get on the table. You will also be given an IV for contrast for you blood -- it will make your face feel a little flushed but the entire test is over in 30 minuets. I have done it other ways but this seems the best method.
Lets us know how you make out??
I certainly wish you well---Harry

Harry,
Then what type of Doctor should I go looking for? I want to find that will take care of my condition well and listen well. I am sorry to hear about all that you went through and maybe I can learn from your experience. I certaily don't want to me near death even though I am kinda close to it already. I've had a sigmoidoscopy that revealed nothing. I think the stupid doctor was just expecting for my pain and suffering to disappear on its own and for my weight to gain all by itself without any problems.
I feel like reporting him to the 1-800 I wrote down that was in his office. Is that appropriate? Will it even be worth it?

So sorry to hear about your problems and the treatment you are receiving . I had a cat scan done last week. I was also given 3 glasses of something to drink, it was very COLD but the taste wasnt bad at all. Like gatorade or something red. Then i had to wait till it went in thru my system. Then had an IV injection with more dye i think. The actual test itself took maybe 5 mins total if that. It wasnt bad at all just time consuming.
I had a bad case of diverticulitis , was given cipro for it. Seemed to clear up for about 4 days after the completion of the cipro but now its returned back. I have an appt with a specialist on jan 20 IF I CAN HOLD on till then. I doubt it, it hurts LIKE hell.
I don't know what to tell you or tell you what you have, I do agree with Harry tho, LOOK FOR ANOTHER DOCTOR. I wish you the best hon and will keep you in my prayers.

I think the way to go is have a Good Internal Medicine Doctor. But, you have to find one that is easy to talk to and will listen to your problems and meet your expectations. It may take seeing a few before you feel comfortable.
I suggest you talk to your friends, relatives and anybody that will listen and find out who they use and why? Then pick one.
The first one I went to where I now live was recommened by a relative. I had a sinus infection and the first thing his office staff did was give me an EKG for my heart. He did eventually give me an antibiotic and a week later I saw him again and they did another EKG.
I don't have heart problems --never had and still don't -- the Doc said that was just stand office practice. I never went back and neither has my relative.
I went to 2 others then found one that with an office visit did not try to rush -- he acted like I was his only patient in the world and the waiting room was not full but at least half full. That was almost 10 years ago and He referres me to other Doctors that specialize in Blood Pressure , endocriology, ENT, GI, surgeons, etc.
We have a good Doctor/ patient relationship but he knows that I will also check out his recommendations. I sometimes ask " who would he send his wife or Dad to or does he use that Doctor for himself and family". We sometimes disagree. He has found that I'll tell him what I think and he knows that I can talk on a knowlegdeable medical level with him.
When you go see a doctor--- go prepared. I have a small note book with questions or topics I want to discuss. If I have had a test run -- I get a copy of every one including blood work and ask him to explain it, the problem, treatment, prognosis, etc. Never but never go unprepared. I keep a file of all tests and blood work. If I have go to the ER I also get copies of every test that is conducted even if it means going back later to the Medical Records Department.
If your expectations are low then that is what you'll get. I have found that a Doc will only rise to YOUR EXPECTATIONS and no higher. If one Doctor consults with another then I want a copy of the Consult.
Doctors like to give you several to choose from and not recommend just one other Doc in any specialty.
I certainly wish you well.

Hey Wannabe,
Hope you are doing well, wondering how youre doing.
UPDATE on my health: Well had to call my doc up again after the second round of cipro for the diverticulitis. It was late in the evening and i was hurting like hell. Had not been eating well or drinking enough cause i wanted to resolve (let my bowels rest and get better) the problem before seeing the gastro doc on the 20th of Jan.
I told her (in tears) that i couldnt make it anymore and was hurting and just plain feeling ILL. She suggested i go to the ER. I did, told them what was suspected (diverticulits) and my history. They ran tests, blood work etc. They admitted me to the hospital overnight for observation because of the intensity of the pain and because they could tell my blood pressure was sky high. The ER doc let us know that i was totally dehydrated and proceeded to give me fluids and antibiotics thru IV the entire night and up till my release at 5 pm the next day.
MY OWN DOC didnt come in cause her husband (a doc too) was on call for her. He has never seen me yet proceeded to say, hed prescribe pain pills and that i would probably feel more comfortable being at home. While i was there the er doc had written on the orders while i was admitted to have demerol every 4 hrs. My docs hubby, Dr david, not knowing a thing, said i could probably just go home. AHH he actuallly said,,getting sick during the holidays is just so,, hard because most docs are out of town or busy. WELL EXCUSE ME, like id rather be in the hospital than at home cause of NOTHING better to do?? Anyway, he saw me in tears saying fine i'll go home but dont just send me home with pain pills, give me something that will fix WHATEVER is causing the pain. He says," well i dont think its diverticulits at all, just dont know what it could be. Doctors sometimes dont have all the answers.
Would you LIKE to stay another night?" I couldnt believe what he asked. He said, it could be spasms, or old adhesions, and for adhesions you will need surgery. But cant tell if its adhesions TILL they open you UP. I asked if it could be severe spasming then because i have had a history of spasms, (just NOT THIS intense, ever), he said he wasnt sure. At that point i just said, give me the pain pills, something stronger for spasms than the regular levbid (med for spasms) that i had and let me go home. I left the hospital in tears. He kept apologizing, but i felt like hey i wasnt HIS patient and he really didnt want to be bothered during the holidays by a bothersome woman who was in pain and wanted ANSWERS. So now, im hanging in here, taking the meds and just waiting till the 20th of jan to see the gastro doc. Still hurting, still feeling a bit sick and not having any answers or relief.
