In the past couple days I've noticed my 21 month old daughter's (oh, whats it called--where she pees out of) being really red and its red all around it. Inside, outside and above the lips. Does this sound like a yeast infection? She itches it and says her butt hurts and I have been putting Monistat external cream on it. It only looks slightly better. She did have thrush a few weeks ago because of anti-biotic that she was on. But that was a few weeks ago. I figured that if she got yeast infection from that, it would have happened then and not now. Also, I thought a yeast infection in someone her age was supposed to show up as red bumps and not just plain red in that area. I don't see any discharge coming out of her either. Any ideas?

It is very possible that the antibiotics caused a yeast infection. Thrush is also a form of yeast in the mouth. Take her to her pediatrician and have her checked. They will probably give her oral diflucan(or nystatin). Also, she may be sensitive to something that you put in her bath. My neice got a yeast from her antibiotics at the age of 3 so it can happen.

There is hardly anything there anymore and she didn't complain when I changed her diaper today. Hopefully, its gone and doesn't come back. If it does, I may just go ahead and take her in and they can confirm what it is and maybe give me something for then and future. Thanks!!

It sounds like a yeast infection to me. Glad it is cleared up, but I would be careful using Monistat on her at such a young age. They usually don't recommend that for little ones. Another source of yeast infections and bladder infections in kids, especially girls, is bubble baths.
good luck!

If not Monistat, what do you recommend? Lotrimin maybe?

My kids have all had yeast rashes and infections. One of my kids had one when she was only 4 months old so they can hit at any age. We were given a prescription for Nystatin cream for some of the infections. Our pediatrician actually recommended Monistat and we had no problem with it. Upon looking things up, it IS considered safe. This should be used only when you have ruled out other things and know it is a yeast issue.
I dont let my kids take bubble baths anymore and I dont take them either as they do cause problems. Good luck
