Anyone heard of this before? I was talking to my chiro and he said estrogen dominance may be causing the problems I am having with acne and migraines around my period. If anyone has had any experience with this please reply!

John Lee, M.D. talks about it in his books What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About [Pre]Menopause.

Yes, Dr Lee thinks the whole estrogen dominance syndrome is the primary problem of not enough progesterone in the body to balance the bodies production of estrogen.
That's a long subject to discuss.
Migraines and Acne can be caused by other metabolic disorders which include the excess production of insulin from an overactive Pancreas and Insulin resistence.
This problem directly affects the production of hormones from the ovaries and will not be helped by the addition of any progestereon or progestin suppliment.
The Endocrine/metabolic disorder is helped by anti-diabetic medications that work specifically with making the body cells more sensitive to insulin.
Additionally, the presence of cysts on the ovaries can cause for an over production of testosterone which is one of the big reasons why some women get deep cystic acne even though they are headed on to menopause.
Migraines are a genetic brain dysfunction. People are born being predisposed to the problem. The headache it self is tied to a hyperactive brain or a hyperactive nervous system.
Hormones can and do play a role in triggering the headaches along with a lot of other triggers including chocolate and coffee in excessive amounts.
But which hormone? Estrogen? Testosterone? Insulin?
Adrenals?
Estrogen Dominance was first given the name because of hormonal theories presented by Doctors like Dr. Lee.
However, there is still some debate as to whether Dr. Lee has a good answer for many problematic conditions or if he is off the mark.
