Hello & Merry Christmas everyone!
I have searched & searched for information on this & hopefully, one of you can help us out here.
A good friend of mine was over at our house last night for quite a while & her daugher kept going to the bathroom & would be in there for 10-15 at a time & after the 3rd time I asked her if she was OK & she told me that her butt hurt & she could not poop. We all layed down on my bed & we were watching TV & I was thinking about a stool softener or something & she then started to get upset & said that her butt felt funny. Her Mom took her and looked at her bottom & called me over to see & it looked as if her rectom was turned inside out. There was no blood or anything & she said there was no pain, it just felt funny. We called the doctor & when they finally returned our call, they just said it was a hemorrhoid. It looked NOTHING like a hemorrhoid. Today is looks almost back to normal now, but she said she feels like she neds to poop, but is afraid to try.
I have delt some with livestock & have seen prolapsed rectoms & 1 proapsed uterus & that is what it looked like to me. I did not mention to the Mom or the daughter, but I did look for info on the internet & could find nothing about it.
I would appreciate if you have any advice for us.
Thank you so much!
Kim

Hi Kim
Merry Christmas to you too.

I think you might be right with your diagnosis of prolapse. Guess it's quite possible it happens to kids as well as adults. Sounds like the doctor didn't want to be bothered on Christmas Day. I never heard of a kid with haemmorhoids either!

I have an adult friend who had rectal prolapse for quite some time before it was surgically corrected but it sure sounds like that kid needs to see a paediatrician quite soon.

Best wishes

I think it’s unlikely a prolapse. It sounds more like she’s severely constipated and her feces is right at the opening and/or larger than normal causing it to push out some. Her being afraid and in pain will likely add to her not wanting to “let go” and she may get more severely constipated. I’d try a suppository made for a child before trying a laxative. As always, it’s best to see a doctor if she doesn’t go within a day or so. Mostly you want to make it so she’s not afraid as this can lead to them holding it too much and constipation just from holding it.

I really think it is probably a hemorrhoid. My child had one when she was about 2yo. It is usually from the constipation and hers did eventually go back to normal also. Hope this helped a little.

Well it's been awhile since the original post, but it sounds like a prolapse to me b/c I had the same thing happen and had to go to the hospital to have it pushed back in...how humiliating for a 25year old! I kept feeling like I had to "go" and it just wouldn't come out and when I tried to wipe (sorry, TMI) I could feel "something funny". It was very scary, but now I know in case it happens again. I think it always does a little, but not completely.

I realize I am kind of late to send this but my daughter had the same problem starting when she was 3 and she was they found out she has cystic fibrosis. I was told by her gastro doc that this is a common symptom for cf pts.

I had rectal prolapse as well, the only difference was that I had a part of my liver surprise me coming down the pike rather than nothing at all. I'm no medical whiz, but I would say a prolapse sounds most legitimate. I know I'm not of much help...
