I have had this problem ever since I can remember. When I eat, it normally takes about an hour or so and I always have bad cramps accompanied by diarreha. It never fails and it really makes it bad when my wife and I want to go out to eat or something because I always end up having to go home. Has this happened to anyone or does anyone know what this is and what I can do about it? Thank you in advance.

This, actually, is something that is worth checking out with the doctor. I don't know how old you are, but judging from the fact that you're married, I would say that you're at least over 25...am I right? (I know, I know, there are lots of people under 25 married, I'm just talking about what's likely! :)) Anyway, have you ever had blood in your stool? The fact that this has been going on for a long time shows that it's most likely nothing serious...though, it could be a malabsorption syndrome like celiac...many people don't find out for years that they have celiac until they finally complain to their doctor and they do a few tests. You should also be investigated for inflammatory bowel disease as it can present like this too (but usually more acutely).

I am 27 and to be honest, I have only really noticed the problem within the last 3 years or so. I do notice it getting progressively worse. It seems sometimes it is worse than others. There are times I can eat and be fine, there are others I have less than an hour brfore I start cramping up and have to rush to have a BM. I do, however, feel much better afterwards. Sometimes the cramps linger a bit but for the most part they subside.
Thank you for you taking your time to respond to this. I have been wondering what is going on and at times I get a little worried. It is more of a nuisence and an embarassment than anything else though. Thanks again.

No problem..yeah, obviously this can be a nuisance, but the thing is, it's important to rule serious things out. Have you had any weight loss or anything like that? Though this may seem weird to ask, have you had any joint, skin or eye problems at all?

The fact that the cramping goes away when you defecate is a good thing. Though it's probably a good idea to make sure there aren't microscopic quanities of blood in your stool.

Does the pain and cramping get worse after a certain type of food?

I have problems with my knees but thats about it. I cannot blame this on anything since I run 3 or more times a week. I am sure the cramps are probably worse after ceritan foods but I have not looked that closely at it. I will keep an eye out and observe which foods are worse. I thought maybe lactose intolorance but I have tested this theory and dairy does not bother me like it would if I were. I have not noticed any weight loss though so I guess that would be a good thing. I do notice that I bloat up alot with these cramps. Don't know if that is common or not.
Again, thanks for your help.

Hey there, I too have had the same problem for as long as I can remember, and when I went and got it checked out it turned out to be ulcers... I didn't even know that was a symptom. I still have it all the time, so I think my problem is stress and ulcers. Could be totally different though.

I have irritable bowel and the symptoms that you mentioned happen to me quite frequently. There were many many times i had to rush home from eating out, because i would get severe cramping and diahrrea. The really weird part about it is ,i never know what food will set me off.One time i can eat something and i wll be ok .The next time i will eat the same exact food and i will have to run for the bathroom.

There has to be a reason for this type of BMs.

My first thought is that you have some trigger foods that cause you to go. I suggest that you keep a Log of every thing that you eat and try to figure it out.

If you are not lactose intolerant you may have Celiac disease --- A condition that you cannot tolerant foods that contain Gluten-- THe foods are wheat, barley, rye and oats. There are many foods that contain filler and sweeteners like barley malt.

A good test is to not eat foods that contains gluten for several weeks and see what happens. It is a very difficult progam to follow. Rice, corn and potatoes do not contain gluten and you can buy gluten free foods at some health food stores.

If you are of Irish heritage then the stats are like 1 per 100.

Another thing is a rotation diet to try to find the triggere food. It certainly is not an easy task but worth the effort.

First of all, I wanted to thank everyone for thier help in my troublesome matter. I do have an update. I have been watching my diet and seeing what may trigger the reaction and it seems that pork is one of the main culprits. Now, I do not know much about gluten or what contains gluten but I have eaten 3 seperate dinners and the only thing in common with all of them was pork and I had the same reaction to all three. Celiac still a possibility? or something else? Thank you again
