hi.
Its Christmas...
merry christmas to everyone. Wish I could say I was enjoying a merry christmas myself.
Bad day today. But thats not why I am writing.
Anyways...
I was wondering if anyone else out there who suffers from anxiety has eating problems?
Because I have been through the ringer of tests in my life to see why I suffer from constant nausia and no physical problems have been found to blame. But never the less when ever I eat anything more then a couple of bites I feel sick. I just feel a bit panicky, then like I am going to throw up then like I am seriosly ill and somthing is seriously wrong.
But it doesnt happen everyday like this...
usually it does and there is only a few foods that are "safe" to me. LIke plain potati chips... pasta (plain with salt only) and perogies with NO butter..
the starches. Which is why I thought it was physical but now I am begining to believe it is mental. I am very bad snxiety and bi-polar and I havent had the chance to talk to my doc yet about my new idea...
so I was wondering... anyone else?
its at its worst when I am in front of people. ESPECIALLY at a table full of people I am not 100% comfortable with...
I scarf down whats on my plate so fast because I am nervous and then I right away feel sick (even if I only had a little) and I constantly wake up in the middle of the night and have to go sleep on the bath room floor because I feel nausious. I hate this and it makes eating very very very unsatisfing even at the best of times. I dont know. Make any sence?
Well if anyone has ANY eating related problems that they tie in with anxiety then i would love to hear about it...
because I am desprite and all of my pants are slowing getting too big for me!

Whenever i get a bad anxiety attack, i too get real nauceous. There are times when i get absolutely no sleep... i think it drived my roomate crazy when ever it happened, luckily my room was right next to the bathroom...
i have social anxiety and whenever i am forced to speak up in class, or walk into the auditorium for one of my larger classes, i get real naucous and have to leave the room... even when i have to make a phone call, before i dial the number i get sick...
i also get real thirsty sometimes, and cant eat afterwards, i had a period when alll i ate was plain toast for about two weeks, i lost a bit of weight there...
right now it has subsided... but next week i have a bunch of things i have to do and am pretty sure that these wonderful feelings will come back...
what i find that helps is fresh air, kinda cleared out my head and made my stomach feel better... as well as drinking some cold water...
hope that helps at all

Hi,
Merry Christmas.
I'm sorry you're feeling so bad. I just want you to know that you're not alone. I've been dealing w/stress and anxiety for the past few months. I am experiencing the same type of sickness when it comes to eating. After just a couple of bites, I soon begin to feel sick to my stomach. After I am done eating, I feel terrible. Within a half hour to an hour, the sickness goes away. And, like you, I don't feel this way when I'm eating potato chips. They are one of the few foods I can eat without feeling sick. I am currently taking ativan, but am trying to gradually taper off from them. I recently noticed I am experiencing some of the same symptoms I had prior to taking them, though. So I'm not sure what my doctor is going to say this week about that. And as for weight loss.....I'm with you there, too. I haven't lost pounds, but I've lost serveral inches. Take care. I'm here if you want to talk again. Stacie :)

thank you soooo much. You explained what I was trying to explain to a T.
Your post actually made me cry because its good to know I am not the only one who feels this exact way. It is SO hard dealing with things like this especially if you think there is somthing seriously wrong with you physically and no one can explain it. I do believe it is in my head ... Especially after hearing what you said! Thanks, I worry so much about why I feel this way and it does make sence that anxiety would cause this. wow. You said just what happens to me... i cant get over it! Well thanks so much for posting! (and ya I dont think i actually have lost POUNDS but there is bones sticking out that werent sticking out before!)
anyways, I am so sorry you have to go through this as well but it gives me hope that if there are others out there it will be treatable!
PEACE and lots of hugs!
Sally

Hi again, Sally
Thank you so much for the kind words. I know how much it helped me in the past and even now, to know that somewhere out there someone else is feeling the exact same way I am. And though I adore my family physician, I explain my symptoms to him, and sometimes he looks at me like I've got two heads. Ditto on the bones sticking out, too!!-forgot about that one. Also, there are the pains in the joints which feel like knives, and I am getting watery eyes again-who would have ever thought these things stemmed from anxiety/stress? When I start getting the sharp pains in my head which feel like knives going through my skull, I will most definately be continuing on w/meds. I do relaxatioin techniques, and try "self talk" often. I am not one to be dependent on medications. But if I feel better w/them than w/out, I may need to stay on them for as long as it takes to get "me" back. That would be nice, wouldn't it? :) Take care, and let me know how you're getting along. Stacie :)

Happy holidays

I have had loss of appetite, along with internal shakes and tremor and dry mouth and muscle aches, sleeping problems since September. Never had anxiety before. Started with a swallowing problem which has since been resolved long ago.

I have lots lots of weight and the shakes and loss of appetite are driving me nuts. I want my appetite back! I also sometimes feel a little nauseous after I eat. I am forcing myself to eat, drinking ensure and such.

I just started on paxil cr 12.5 last week and use ativan to help control the shakes. Hope the paxil kicks in soon, because this is very hard on me. Was on no medications since I went of Bp medicine in october. BP ok now.

Whole thing has been a mystery, started while on vacation. I am 43 and other than some high blood pressure, was pretty healthy until all this started.

I have been tested for thyroid, glucose and a bunch of blood and urine work, almost all normal or near normal.

I am looking for answers, what I can't figure out is how I could be so anxious if indeed that is the problem, without knowing what the problem is.

Sounds like anxiety, symptoms almost the same as I had....insomnia, couldn't eat anything , food thoughts made me sick...lost 4 pant sizes. Did the blood work. Now I'm eating good, put some weight back on, sleeping good. My doc put me on paxil, wellbutrin. Have to give your meds time to kick in. Hope this helps you out....

Hi Sillmeo3, I did not have internal shakes, but had trembling hands. I don't know if the trembles came from the paxil, wellbutrin, or what. If your having troubles sleeping, and are not getting enough rest, I know it really throws your system into chaios. Ask your doc about something to help you sleep. See if that helps out any. Good luck...keep us posted.

Hello Marry Christman and a Happy New Year.

I've been sick for 6+ month, which I know lead to my anxiety problems. I would fell sick when ever I smelled food. Even now I still get the shake mainly on my hand when I dont eat. I have lost 30 bounds. I'm able to eat a bit more now than before. Ofcourse only small quantities. What I beleived is causing this is acid reflex, the only thing that I found out helps me is flexid oil pills. I believed that is the way you spell it. I have been taking it for 3 month and I still dont know how to spell it lol....
My problem started with parasite in my stomach, from there everything else just followed, slowly and sadly ofr durations of periods. All I have to say is this .. no matter what happens today, tomorrow will be a better day...

good luck with your cituation.. best wishes.. :)

Hey

For 6 years I've been battling this problem. Every time I eat (Even if it is only a few bites) I can get severe pain in my stomach, severe nausea, "intestinal spasms". But sometimes it elevates to something similar to a panic attack, shaking, racing heart, fast breathing, flushes, weakness etc plus the stomach pain and nausea. I'd lose stones at a time, and with this current bout of severe anxiety have lost 3 stones in weight. I went through many physical tests (barium meal, blood tests, heliobacter breath tests etc), sent to the hospital to see specialists such as the gastroentologist, was put on many different types of drugs (Numerous very strong anti-acids, muscle relaxants, anti-nausea, anti-spasm etc) and eventually I was diagnosed with chronic GAD and panic disorder. Suggest this to your doctor. That was my mistake all along. Took them 6 years to figure it out on their own. Because now, it's been with me so long I have no hope of getting better but will only try, I say try because there's a damned good chance it will never work, to control my pain.

As a recovering anorexic, I can tell you that anxiety disorders and eatings disorders go hand in hand! Almost everyone in the Eating Disorder hospital also experienced anxiety and depression.

When I'm anxious I have little or no appetite, but I force myself to eat because I know the effects to starvation are much, much worse, and I'm committed to recovery. Would it be helpful to follow a meal plan, designed by a nutrionist, when you are anxious?

Also, medication does help with anxiety. Unfortunately for me it's too many meds - Lexapro, Wellbutrin (to offset the sleepiness and weight gain of Lexapro), Ativan and Valium. I'm trying to get off of the Valium and Ativan because they are addicting. But, the meds have been a life saver. I was bedridden before.
