I recently had acupunture for the first time to stop smoking and it worked fantastic. I have been smoke free for the past 6 weeks with very minimal cravings. My question is, what other things is acupunture used for? Can it be used for stress, weight loss? Thank you!

Hi Cathy: I get Acup. treatments for menopause, arthritis in my knees, anxiety, etc. I'm glad it's helped you stopped smoking. That's great. Sue

Acupuncture is very good for helping pain and helping you to relax generally. It has not been found to specifically help with weight loss, but if you feel more relaxed and better about yourself, then it is possible that you would improve your diet and start to lose weight anyway.
You should also remember that acupuncture, like homeopoathy treats you as a person rather than just your symptoms, so if you and another patient go along with exactly the same symptoms, you may not both have the same diagnosis in TCM terms or the same treatment, as the treatment is tailored to suit you rather than your symptoms.
Hope this helps and good luck with it?

I get acupuncture treatments for past injuries, to help with mental clarity ;It has helped me get rid of migraines for good and helps keep me from getting Carpal Tunnel Syndrome ( since my present job is very repetitive. Acupuncture can be used as a preventitive, as a treatment, or maintanence of the body, mind and spirit. Acupuncture treats every aspect of every person differently and according to your body. It moves energy throughout your body in a natural pattern, since most of everyone's life is disrupted (by chemicals, stress, etc) this causes the energy or chi to become off rhythm, which acupuncture helps get you back on track. I am passionate about acupuncture, in fact I will studing in New Mexico next year to become an acupuncturist. There are lots of great books to read if you want to get to know more about this subject- let me know if you would like some recommendations.

Acupuncture has done wonders for my anxiety. I am pregnant, and have had a lot of anxiety issues, that I never had before. Hormones, I guess. But, it was like night and day. As soon as I left, and over a week later, I was still much more relaxed. It can also help with fertility issues (depending on what they are: can help low sperm count and improve the quality of your eggs). Love it, love it, love it!! I suppose, as with everything, there are good and bad ones out there, but I love the one I found.

Wow!!! It's fantastic to read of so many positive results regarding acupuncture. I have just found one by word of mouth and am going to see if it will help my hormones which are out of sync and causing my menstrual cycle to do weird things. Personally i hope it does help as i dont want to be taking birth control pills for ever!!

Hi, Sounds like acupunture is the way to go. I was hypnotized on Friday to quite smoking. It didn't work. Not postive I was even hypnotized. I am very dissapointed to say the least because I realy want to quite. I also suffer from anixety and OCD. Could anyone tell me Does it hurt? How long does it take? How many session are needed? Roughly how much does it cost?
Thanks!
Healy

Healingmylife.....out of curiosity, how did it feel to be hypnotised and how do they attempt to hypnotise you.I think i'd be too fidgety and not relaxed enough to be hypnotised. Have you tried those nicotine patches to stop smoking? My brother in law took some tablets which helped him stop smoking for 2 or so years, but recently started smoking again!! It must be a very difficult thing to give up. Makes me so glad i never ever took up smoking!!

No, acupuncture does not hurt, but you do feel a dull ache on the needle which is called De Qi and that is how the practitioner knows that they have the point.
You would need to discuss with your practitioner how many sessions you would need, but roughly six to either sessions would be ok and it can be re-assessed after this. I am not sure about the cost, about $40 -50, but you have to contact the practitioner and ask. Normally a first treatment costs more as there is more work to do, as they have to take a full case history on the first session and then give you treatment. Subsequent sessions are cheaper, as they just need to assess what has happened in between appointments and look at your tongue and take your pulses and then do a treatment.
Acupuncture is very good for panic disorders and can help you relax a lot. Some acupuncturists have some specific regimes for helping you to quit smoking also.
Good luck
