View Full Version : Bah....Surgery

Well there's....good news....and...bad news...and...good news.....LOL

Had eye muscle sugery on December 19th So I got to the place they preped me my doc came in we had a few laughs blah blah and I asked him about a perscription pain med....which he agreed to give me (wahoo!) So percocet has been my best friend for a while....:D BAD news he wanted to do adjustable sutures....I told him no way no how....BUT he promised me it wouldn't hurt so I agreed.

anyway we finished in pre op and they went and did the surgery and I came out of it...only to discover he decided to NOT do my right eye....wahoo! less pain for me! so they let me wake up a bit then he came back for the sutures....

My poor mom ya'll.....I had her hands...those sutures are the worst pain I have EVER been through (guess child birth could be worse but I haven't gone through that...*knock on wood*) I was beyond ghost white...her hands were a deep purple and below my grip was ghost white.....I was shaking so bad they had to hold me down.

Yuck...I'd rather just redo the surgery every 10 years or so than go through that again. (which we hopefully won't LOL)

so I went home felt sick...slept for the next few days....TUESDAY I wake up in quite a bit more pain and I've got some yellowing/discharge so we call the doc...they tell me ok USE the ointment for the day and call in the morning. So I do....hmm maybe SOME improvement but not significant. so I call back wenesday (they were open til 12) and this doctor whom I've never known starts BASHING me 'it hasn't been a week yet it's SUPPOSE to still hurt' (Yeah but it's not suppose to feel WORSE) then she yells at me AGAIN because I was starting to ween myself off the percocet....UGH

Big big mess. THe surgical site also called earlier in the week to push their stupid evaluation some more...then ask how I was.....they had a good evaluation til that point....well even after I guess they did but I had a few complaints to add as well....lol...sorry patient should be first priority not an evaluation...

But yeah yesterday seemed to have quite a bit of improvement...the eye is more the 'blood shot' look than the bloody look....don't know about today haven't looked yet :p But I was smart I got my eye in pictures each day LOL

anyway I'm off...the bath is calling my name!

Becky,

I feel for you girl! I wish your surgery had turned out a lot less painful. Re-ops, and especially re-ops with adjustable, are always harder. You are WAY braver than I am. I positively REFUSED to have adjustable. Picked a PO with TONS of experience in non-adjustable instead of one that used adjustable on a regular basis. If my PO would have sprung the adjustable tidbit on me right before surgery, he would have had very little to laugh with me about.....

I don't blame you for being irked at the hospital. I was so peeved by everything that went on during my first surgery that I fired the entire hospital afterwards and told my PO that the second surgery WOULD take place elsewhere. B the time I got finished he had canceled his contract with hospital A and signed a new one with another one.
If you feel that your eye is getting worse, don't let ANYONE stand in your way of being seen. Increasing pain is not normal (gee, I guess that Dr missed a couple of days of med school?) I hate how some Drs seem to have some sort of scale in their heads of how much things "should" hurt, and don't care to treat YOUR pain, but what they think "normal" pain is with what they think "sufficient" pain relief is. I hope the pain starts to lessen soon. I know how hard that is.

I'm sending you positive vibes for a pain free recovery and a perfect alignment.

Thanks! Sure didn't feel brave since I was crying like a baby the whole time ;)

As for the Doctor who refused to see me....(Actually I'm thinking it was two) I'm gonna have words about her/them to MY doc at my post op. (I'm lucky my surgeries always get schedualed right before my doc goes out of town...go figure)

But the pain seems to be subsiding a bit I'm able to manage off less percocet which makes me happy :D

That sounds so scary. I am sorry you had to go through that. Hope you get better soon. I hope I don't have to go thorugh any pain like that. Getting injured in the first place was enough for me. I am a big wimp. LOL

yeah feeling a bit better!

Now I just got this really thick discharge....can't figure it out but we think it's from the stitches being disolved? I always thought they just absorbed back into the body but I guess it's being expelled....*Crinkles nose*
