I am 43 (almost) amd am having lapses in my cycles(which I thought was normal. My doc. says that I shouldn't go longer than 10-12 weeks w/o. They put me on Prometium for 10 days to what I call "jumo start" my period.
First question. How do you find a doc. to talk to about a natural solution? Second question. Isn't my body doing what is the "natural" thing by my cycles slowing down on frequency?
Any help? I am also wondering what to do for hot flashes, night sweats, and lack of libido?
Thanks!

At the age of 43, I would say that is perfectly normal for your body to be slowing down on periods, so that it is getting ready for the menopause. Also, the hot flushes and night sweats are normal with this, although quite uncomfortable.
Homeopathy and acuncture can be very helpful for this kind of problem and you would need to go and see a Naturopathic Doc (ND) rather than an MD to help you with this. They practice naturopathic techniques, so would help you with dietary interventions and they also practice herbal medicine, homeopathy and acupuncture.
You should be able to find one in your are in the phone book or by looking on the internet. Sometimes you might find that you have to travel a little. Other than that, you can try and find someone that either practices herbal medicine, homeopathy or acupuncture separately, that is, if you have decided which therapy you would like to try.
Anyway, good luck.

It's interesting what "Natural Solution" means to who ever is using the term.
Your Doctor is probably trying to work with your hormone levels with the thought of future bone and brain protection in mind.
Unless you have had an extensive hormone panel done and unless you are getting your hormones tested during the regulation phase of the medication, there's no way to know what's really ging on with your body.
So first, you need to approach the problem, if any at all, from finding your base levels of how your body might be right now.
Now, if it turns out that you need hormone replacement at your age then you need to explodre all the different options.
Some people believe that natural means ingesting hormones from plants.Phyto Hormones.
But others think natural means ingesting hormone from the business of taking the urine from pregnant mares
and giving it to women because horses are part of nature.
And still, others think natural means replacing a deficit of the natural hormone with bio identical estrogens which are formulated to match the type of estrogen the female ovary produces as a chemical twin.
Which neither PRegnant MAre uRINe or Plant Hormone does.
And thus goes the great Hormone debate of the century.
So the base question beyond the absence of periods is this: Do you have any other problems?
What are your symptoms besides the meenstrual cycle?
From there the exploration of the hormone levels is
still the key.
You might be right on your natural course of events.
But if you are symptomatic from the fluctuation of hormones, ssuch as having hot flashes then that might be an indication that your levels are shifting too much depending on your level of discomfort.
The worse the symptom, the bigger fluctuation of hormones you are probably experiencing.
And remember, we are talking fluctuation here.
It's not always about loss or depletion.
Guess what happens when one day the ovary is working and the next day it decides to tilt out and stop hormone production and then it wakes up again and tries to make up for lost production time.
Chaos of the hormonal kind is what happens and hence the mysterious hot flas even when ones hormone levels look normal because the blood test might have been taken on a production day.
And so, for a lot of women, these problems remain a mystery until something more serious happens to cause further disruption.
I like the field of Reprroductive endocrinology for troubleshooting hormonal problems.
I've had both ovarys removed and I like pharmeceuticals
in the SSRI and Tricyclic Antidepressant form to regulate my body furnace in the way a plant or alternative treatment can't.
But then my ovaries and my whole female situation was pretty intense and serious so I needed some serious meds to handle the big problem.
My hot flashes had nothing to do with depression.
but they give the Tricyclic Antidepressants to address hot flashes because of the chemical regulation the classification of medication addresses.
And for the woman who is having severe and debilitating hot flashes sometimes such medicines are the answer. The whole wisdon in knowing the right "natural" choice is in understanding the body problem from a technical level.
Once you know the reason, you can then make informed choices.
