Hi, I had an ultrasound done and it said my right kidney measures 11.0 x 5.6 and my left kidney measures 9.5 x 4.1. I have an appointment to see a urologist in January. My doctor said I have a problem with my left kidney and the urologist will do an IVP. The results showed the Liver, spleen and pancreas are unremarkable.
I'm curious as to why one kidney would be smaller than the other or is that normal?

My ultra sound was the same, my left kidney was 99mm and the right 115mm - we have different measurement system. Anyway its usually a sign that a stone could be lodged in the ureter causing a back flow of urine to back up into the kidney which makes it swell. Its called hydronephronesis or something like that.

Hi Izmik, I just replied to your other post. I'll look that up. Do you have back pain and kidney pain? I know they say if your kidney is bigger than the other, it could be stones that cause it to swell and hurt but the wierd thing is, it's my left kidney that's giving me problems. I also constantly leak small amounts of urine even when I'm just sitting watching t.v. Do you have any of these problems? Thanks!!

Hi Becky my pain when it starts up is on both sides and tends to radiate around into the middle. When the right one is playing up ( the swollen one) the pain is much worse and gives me bad backache. I dont think its a blockage because I dont have any problem going.
About leaking small amounts - yeah I have done that but not that often. I can cough and leak a small amount, but I think thats more to do with having weak muscles in my case probably. Have you had days where you go and your busting and all of a sudden you start, and then it just stops just like that ?? What about bloating ? My tummy is really bloated and if Im on my feet too long the upper abdo just under my breasts bloats up too and I get sort of a numb feeling there. I dont know if its a build of of fluid or what. Also Im very distressed in the morning because that seems to be my worst time of day, then it passes as the day goes on. Have you had a couple of pain free days when you think its gone away and you feel good, then all of a sudden its back with a vengeance. Someone was telling me its when the stone moves that most of the pain is felt. I hope you get diagnosed soon and your well again, its just the pits I know. Let me know how you go with your appointment with the urol.

Hi Izmik, I have pain on my right side once in a while, but have bad pain on my left daily. I have no problem going either. I go alot, about 20 times a day and it is never a little dribble. Every time I go, it's like I held it in for hours. My stomach is never bloated but when I first wake up my face and ankles are swollen. My face swells up really bad. My kids are always asking me if I was up all night crying.(lol)
I think the doctor is going to do an IVP, but I'm not positive. Have you ever had one? If so whats it like?
I have to find the paper with my appointment on it, when I do I'll let you know when my appointment is.
Talk to you soon. Becky

Hi Becky, no I havent had an ivp , just a plain KUB x ray, a blood test and a 24 hour urine test and the initial ultra sound. I will go see the doc at the end of this week and see what the results are. Morning is the worst time for me for feeling really unwell, and my kidneys groan. The past few days have been really good tho, as the day goes by and I get those fluids into me I tend to feel much better, with just some small crampy pains near my waist if I put my arms up or twist or something. Someone told me its when the stones are on the move that it hurts the most. My tummy is really bloated tho, Im glad my kids havent asked me if I'm 6 months pregnant yet LOL. Yeah let me know when your appointment is, I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you that day , hoping it all goes well for you and that you wont need anything major done. In the meantime stay well. talk to you soon.....Isobelle

Hi Isobelle, My kids have actually asked me if I was pregnant before(lol) I think four children are enough!! (LOL)
I have actually been lucky the last couple of days, haven't had too much pain.
My appointment is January 15. I can't wait to get this all over with.
My sister called me a while ago and told me her best friend was just diagnosed with ovarian cancer, they aren't sure how far it spread yet. they have too run some test. Really sad, she's only 35.
Do you drink plenty of water? Since all this has been going on with my kidney, I started drinking some water. I really need to drink more though. I never really drink water, not even as a child. I usually drink coffee or diet coke. Prenty bad huh?
Luckily my kids drink alot of water, I didn't want my kids being like I was when it came to drinking water.
How old are your children? Mine are 12, 11, 9 and 6.
Well I'm closing for now, I'll talk to you soon.

Hi Becky , yeah I have 3 kids but a lot older than yours my youngest is 19. That is sad about your sisters friend, especially at age 35. I have a friend who has the same she is 43 and has had part of her bowel removed and the cancer has spread to her liver. But with the chemo apparently the tumour in the liver has become dormant. So scary. I have been drinking plenty of water lately ( only since the stone ) but yeah like you I live on coffee and diet coke. Fruit is another thing Im not really fond of unless its mango with ice cream or something LOL.
I seen the doc today, all my tests have come back except for the oxalate test and my KUB x ray - have to wait for the uro to get back from skiing in Austria . Everything is clear and no sign of blockage, he is figuring I have an oxalate stone. The stone is still sitting in the left kidney (at the bottom)and it is 10mm in size. When the uro gets back my doctor said he will let me know if they are going to do something about the stone in my left kidney or if they are just going to leave it in there, and keep an eye on it. The hydronphronesis that I had in the right kidney is gone and the right one looks good. So that is good news. Went to see him about kidney stones and came home with metamucil for my swollen stomach which he said is full of gas. Hopefully it will pass
Glad your appointment is soon and that you have been pain free for a few days. I know the feeling about getting it all over, sometimes its like being on a very slow merry go round. Xmas time is not the best time of the year to get sick as everyone tends to take holidays at that time. Here in Australia they do anyway.
talk to you soon

Hi Isobelle,
I'm glad your right kidney is fine. Hopefully they'll be able to find out what to do about your left soon.
Sorry to hear about your friend, that must be really scary. I remember when I found a lump on my breast, I had to wait a month for my appointment, I was so scared. Luckily it turned out to be an infected cyst. My doctor cut it out.
I also had a lump on the back of my neck. My doctor said it was a cyst, he told me he was going to cut it out and would only need 2 stitches, it ended up being bigger than what he thought, I ended up with 12 stitches. He didn't check it for cancer though, he said he could tell if it looked cancerous or not. I sure hope he's right!!! (lol)
I decided to start drinking at least 3 glasses of water a day then work my way up to 8+ a day.
Maybe it will help me with this fluid I'm retaining.
My face is so puffy every day as well as my ankles.
What is an oxalate test? What does that check for??
I sure hope when I go on the 15th, they'll do some test, I have a feeling when I go, they'll just get some info from me and make me another appointment.
Well I'm closing for now, I'll talk to you soon.

Hi Becky, I hope your still feeling good today - yep I agree , you will probably go on the 15th be sent for some test or other and then another appointment. When I seen the urologist he said to do a blood test 24 hour urine test , had a KUB plain x ray and come back in 4 weeks. The 24 hour urine test measures for creatinine and stuff like that to see how well your kidneys are functioning. That and the blood test measure the amount of uric acid, calcium etc to see what type of stones you are making. All my tests came back ok except for the calcium oxalate , so presuming I have ca oxalate stones. I think they are the hardest to break up with the lithotripsy and seeing there is no blockage they dont really like to go into your kidney and take it out so they will probably leave it there. (so Ive been told ) Its 10mm and that is quite big I think. Poor poor me if it comes out. The doc told me to stay off tomatoes and food high in oxalate. I dont know if there were any more stones that showed up on the x ray until the uro gets back from holiday. So will find out at the end of the month - then I will know if I am going back or not. I live out in the country and we have to travel to the city for stuff like that. Its an 8 hour drive or just over an hour on the plane so its a fair hike.
That is odd that your are only drinking small amounts of fluid yet retaining it. What did your doctor say about that. Really you should be drinking about 12 glasses. My swollen tummy was from gas he said so sent me home with metamucil. I still havent been tho. Im also taking some magnesium and sodium bicarbonate.
Only a week to go for you now. Have you had any tests or anything as yet. What did your doctor tell you ?? Must toddle off and make some quiche for my hubby's dinner tonight. Take care and talk to you soon.

Hi Isobelle, I haven't been back to the doctor since I started swelling. I saw my doctor in October and she scheduled my urologist appointment this month. I problably should have gone back since this started though.
I drink 2-3 pots of coffee a day and maybe 2-3 diet cokes a week. I know, that's not good for your kidneys huh??? I have been trying to cut down on the coffee.
I don't eat alot either, Maybe twice a day, usually only once. I never get hungry. I have to remind my self to eat.
You would think I'd be really skinny. I weighed my self today, and I wanted to cry. My face and ankles are what swells the most. I litteraly have a tripple chin. My eyes always looks like I have smeared eye liner and I don't even wear make up.
About 6 months ago I had a cbc blood test and the only thing that showed was my platelets and monocytes were low and my polys were high. My doctor said it was probably from some type of infection I had.
My LDL Cholesterol was a little high too. All the other blood test came back normal.
How do you do the 24 hour test? Is it something you do at home or do you stay in the hospital for it?
How have you been feeling? I was doing good for a few days but today I have been having pains in the left side if my back, not too bad though.
How much longer before you get the rest of the results? I'm going for now, but I'll write back soon.

Hi Becky - you sound similar to me LOL pity you didnt live closer we could enjoy the coffee as I drink just as much as you do. The 24 hour urine test you do at home, the pathology lab give you these special bags and you collect urine over a period of 24 hours and then they measure whatever they are looking for. Yep a bit high on the cholesterol here too and blood pressure. I went to visit my daughter before xmas and ended up with these horrific pain in my right side, left side - severe indigestion cramping diarreah (sp)and all sorts of stuff. Hadnt eaten or drunk a thing that day. They put me on the iv fluid thing and gave me some morphine for the pain. My white blood cell count was elevated as well , they thought maybe gastro. I went in at 6pm and they booted me out at 2.30am believe it or not. That night my bladder felt swollen, like you know when your pregnant and the baby's head sits on the pubic bone down there, well thats what it felt like. But the next day I felt really great and now my swelling has gone down. So I believe I maybe passed the stone on that side that night but I didnt feel it come out. Maybe with the morphine and stuff. But some people say you can pass the stone but not feel it come out. I dunno.
I wont know until the end of the month what is happening with the big monster one ( hope that doesnt come out ) LOL.
Have you got black eyes ? Sounds like you may be a bit anaemic. At the moment I am taking magnesium from the health food shop. Sodium bicarbonate capsules and drinking a couple of glasses of metamucil a day. And trying to stay off the iced coffee that I drink too. Its like a merry go round with these doctors and specialists visits. I cant believe that they let you go so long before getting you an appointment with the urologist. Especially in your case being so swollen. Make sure you rest plenty and keep your feet elevated if they are swollen.
Take care talk to you tomorrow

Hi Isobelle, That would be cool if we lived closer!! Thank goodness for the internet huh??
My doctor said my cholestrol was fine but on the blood reports, it said it was a little high and had a flag next to it. Apparently my doctor isn't too concerned so I'll go by what she says. (lol)
I have been really lucky as for my blood pressure, It has always been in the normal range.
I know what you mean about feeling like the baby sitting on your your pelvic bone. I'm glad to hear you think that one stone finally came out. But I'm sorry to hear you ended up at the hospital.
It is very possible it came out and you didn't feel it, I know that morphine knocks me on my butt. I don't feel a thing!!
I keep thinking that what I have is kidney stones, but from what I hear, it is really, really painful.
Of course I had gallstones for 5 years and didn't know it. My old doctor removed my gallbladder and told my mom, I had well over 100 gallstones. He even kept my gallbladder and stones to show other patients how bad your gallbladder can get if you don't go to the doctor in time. He said he had to show it to his colleages and staff. He also told my mom I must take pain really well, he said most people go to him with just one stone.
The bottom of my eyes look black but not the whole eyelids. My doctor test me for anemia to start with because I was having period problems and she was shocked to see that my blood work came back fine. So that good news. At that time, she said my liver felt inflammed, so she sent me for ultrsounds which showed my liver and pancreas was fine but thats how she found out something was wrong with my kidney.
My poor family was so worried during all those test with the liver. I found out my grandmother died of liver cancer, so when they heard my liver was inflammed, they totally freaked out. I had no idea they were so worried, they kept it hidden really well.
My fingers have gotten so swollen, I can't even take off my rings and my fingers keep cramping up. Maybe I should eat more bananas.
Well I only have 5 more days to go!!! woohoo!!!
I can't wait to hear what your doctor says, I will be wishing you the best.
I'll talk to you tomorrow.

Hi Becky how are you doing ? Only 3 days for you now :-)
My tummy has been really grouchy lately, bad gas pains, indigestion and belching, even when I eat nothing. Are you in pain when you wake up in the morning ? This seems to be my worst time, then I have a cuppa and some water etc and after about an hour I feel better.
Tummy has been really grouchy lately, with heaps of gas I cant get rid of and I cant stop belching. Do you think this is kidney related ? How are you feeling today. Any better ? I hope so. talk to you later its coffee with my husband time LOL.

Hi Isobelle, Sorry to hear you haven't been feeling to good. I hope the gas passes soon and you feel better.
I got a letter from the urology clinic saying they had to reschedule my appointment and my new appointment is April 1. So I called them this morning and said That I need to see the doctor sooner than that and they told me they will try and fit me in sooner and they will call me back when they find an opening. I was so upset, I can't believe they cancel my appointment and give me one 3 months longer.
I'll let you know when My new appointment is, I'm hoping they'll call and tell me to keep the appointment for the 15th. Keep your fingers crossed!!
I don't notice any thing when I wake up in the mornings, except my face is really puffy. It's usually during the day when My side and backs start aching some.
Yesterday, I got really nervous and almost had my husband take me to the ER. I was sitting down outside watching my kids play, and my chest started hurting from the middle to the left side and my upper abdomen. I got really lightheaded and my hands were shaking uncontrolable. It sort of felt like I was coming out of my body or something. I have never felt that before, It really scared me. But it only lasted about 20 minutes.
Have you ever had that happen to you?
Well I better get off line so I can wait for the clinic to call me.
Talk to you soon.

Hi Becky I cant believe they would cancel your appointment like that, that is just disgusting. Maybe your uro is going skiing with my uro. No honestly you have to do something about that. Can you go to another urologist at all. Thats kind of odd because a friend of mine in the states offered me to come over there and stay at her house and go see someone over there , after the treatment Ive been getting her. And then they have done the same to you anyway.
Yep Ive felt like you have, its kind of what Im going through at the moment with the upper abdomen pain. I also have menieres disease and get light headed anyway. Last year I had a big fall with severe vertigo and broke my leg and ankle. Its one thing after another. Actually its 5.25 am here and I have been up for the last hour with pains. Have you had the chills at all, where you shake all over from the cold ? The worst thing about being sick is being undiagnosed. At least if they say yeah you have this or you have that. Then that way you can at least deal with whatever it is.
They say life begins at 40 but believe me its just a falacy (sp) Im 43 and the last 3 years have been terrible. At least my kids are older tho and I can just go to bed and lie down when I do feel ill.
I was thinking yesterday too, only 3 more days for you and at least you'll know something. Come and post me a message when you hear back from that clinic. Is it a urology clinic you are going to or a private urologist. I was going to send you one of those private message thingies but I dont know how to do it. We are in different time zones but I will be thinking about you all day today. talk to you soon

Hi Isobelle, Sorry it took so long to get back. My youngest has been out of school the last couple of days because she's sick.
I got a letter from the urology clinic saying my new appointment is February 10. I guess it's better than April. I go to this clinic because they go by your income. I have no insurance so if I don't go to this clinic, I wouldn't be able to go. The bad part is they can take as long as they want, they figure, where else is that person going to go?
I can't wait til my husband gets insurance through his work, I'll be so happy.
I do get chills but not every day. Once every only day. Sometimes I get really hot, I don't feel hot from the outside, but inside I feel like I'm on fire inside and my face looks really flushed. Do you ever have that?
I'm so upset, I would be going to the doctor today!!!!
I can't believe I've had this appointment for 3 months and they sent me a letter just a few days ago.
I have a disease called hidradenitis suppurativa (hs) and I have a hiatal hernia. I think the hernia is why upper abdomen hurts sometimes. I'm also supose to see a doctor about that. My main doctor said I might need surgery for the hernia because it causes so much problems.
Is there any other health problem you have? Its so nice to be able to talk to people about your health problems. I really glad for this group.
Well I'm going to close for now, I'll check in tomorrow.
Talk to you soon!!!

Hi Becky, I was just thinking about you and worrying that you were ok. Sorry to hear about your appointment being delayed , but yes its better than April. It stinks how they can do that to people. When I went to the urologist I was in there probably for 5 mins and had to pay $160 dollars. I have private medical and only got 80 back so it still cost me 80 bucks. It stinks I know.
I hope your little girl is ok, my sisters little girl is 3 and she has gastro at the moment. Im staying away, but my sister has been up all night with it as well. Seems to be going around here at the moment.
It is nice to be able to chat with others about our medical problems, LOL no one else wants to listen to me. I have menieres disease, its an inner ear balance problem that makes me have vertigo ( severe spinning ) last year I fell over and broke my leg and ankle with it. I am also going deaf thru it. And my current problem is I seem to have developed this bad indigestion type feeling in the centre of my abdomen with severe belching. I mean it even scares the dog when I do it, and my husband looks at me sideways. I have those pains again today that I had when I had the hydronephresis. So going to the doctor again tomorrow. But I am going to go to a different doctor. I had an ultra sound on the 15th Oct which showed the left kidney stone, and hydrophresis in the right kidney. I visited 3 times with the pain. My doc was away for a month so the visiting doc said yep you have a kidney stone go drink 3 litres of water a day. next time it was take buscopan tablets. I waited for my doc to get back which was the 1st Dec by this time. He said oh dear you have hydronephresis, one kidney is 99mm and the other is 115mm. Better send you to the urologist. I flew to Perth , seen the urologist and he said Isobelle could I see your test results. I said Oh what test results would that be and he said your urine, blood and x ray tests. I told him I dont have any and he asked well how did I know I had a kidney stone. I told him Id had an ultra sound. So he said well off you go and have a 24 hour urine test a blood test and a kub xray. So I flew home yeah home believe it or not and had the test results. I was so embarrassed and what a waste of money. I seen him on the 23rd Dec. So from the 15th Oct to the 23 Dec I hadnt even had as much as a urine test. So time to move on. Perth is 500 miles from where I live believe it or not. I had these expectations of having the laser thingy and being over and done with. Looks like its not to be as my 10mm stone, which is quite big ( big enough not to pass on its own ) is situated in the left lower pole of my kidney.
I must look up that thing you have with the exotic sounding name as my husband would say. When I got Menieres , he goes cant you just get a cold and be over and done with it, do you have to get these exotic sounding diseases LOL..
Anyway off to bed now, take care and I hope all is going well for you. And that you get into that clinic on the 10th. Will be keeping my fingers crossed. I cant believe that they did that to you. Thinking of you.

Hi Becky first off what is MLK day ? Yes I looked up hidrdenitis and yes it does sound very painful. I read it can be associated with Crohns disease and irritable bowel sydrome and I know that can be very painful.
3 weeks till your appointment - my birthday is a week after your appointment so bring some good news :-)
I have changed doctors, just lately I've started having this terrible indigestion with a tight chest and a lot of belching. I explained that I had a kidney stone etc and he said that this shouldnt be causing my new problem. Anyway he sent me for a liver function test and also the pylori helicobacter test. I am booked in for the 23rd for an ultra sound on the liver gallbladder etc. Also gave me those really nice expensive nexium tablets just in case of ulcer. I have to admit they have stopped the burning and the belching but my pains are still there.
When I wake up in the morning Im at my worst, but as soon as I drink a few glasses of water and a cup of tea ( which is a no no ) with ca oxalate stones. I feel much better. Then I eat something and feel worse again. He did say if you drink enough water those stones can actually dissolve. I am getting myself quite distressed lately and glad that I have you and the board. I cant say anything to my hubby as I said to him the other day that one little pin ***** of a pain started under my rib ( the hydronophresis one ) now its moved over to my left side ( the stone side ) and I have all the terrible indigestion, I said I have to have cancer and he told me not to say stupid things.
Im hoping that the ultra sound will show something , at least then I can get treated so fingers crossed. Geez I rave on dont I LOL
Id better go - you take care and hear from you soon.

MLK is a national Holiday. MLK stands for Martin Luther King. I forgot you live in Australia. Sorry!!!
Your pains sound like what I had when I had gallstones. I'm glad he's checking your gallbladder and liver. When I started having all these problems lately, The first thing that was checked was my liver. My grandmother died of liver cancer, so I guess they just wanted to rule it out.
It's possible you might have a hiatal hernia, I'm suprised he's not doing an upper GI test on you? It really sounds like some kind of digestion problem.
Maybe if all those test come back good, ask him about an upper gi.
That's how they found my hernia. I really hope they find out wants causing your pain. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
You can pick anything you want to have, just not cancer!!!!!(lol) I will pray that it's not that.
I can't really talk to my husband about things either, If I complain of a headache, he says "join the club"!!!
I always baby him when he's sick, never when I am.
I don't mind you raving, thats what I'm hear for!! I'm so glad for these boards.
I'll talk to you soon.

Hi Becky how is everything for you today ?? Feeling any better ?
The new doc Im seeing said he would give me the tablets right away to try and stop the burning etc , and then after the ultrasound etc he would probably do the upper GI. If the ultrasound is normal that is. Last nite the pain in my chest was so bad I could hardly breath. ( Had creamy baked potatoes for dinner ) Im probably stressing myself out and bringing it on. I cant believe that a little pain near my right rib has just caused so many other problems. Anyway 2 more days for the ultrasound. Only trouble is the radiologist never tells you anything LOL you then have the waiting game to go back to the doc to get the results.
What sort of treatment are you having for that other problem of yours the hydradentis ?? Kidney problems and that combined doesnt sound like fun. Is it genetic and can your kids get it. ? I hope not.
Off to do some ironing - keep safe and well, and only 3 weeks to go.

Hi Isobelle, I actually feel pretty good today.
They only treatment I can get for HS is long term antibiotics, But I don't want to take the antibiotics unless there is a flare up. I'm so worried about getting immuned to the antibiotics.
I know what you mean about the waiting game, I hate that it takes so long, especially since the radiologist knows that day, they aren't suposed to say anything though!!!
When I was getting my abdominal ultrasound, the lady asked me if I ever had problems with my kidneys. At that time I didn't think anything of it, untill I saw my doctor a month later and she wanted to send me to a urologist.
I will keep my fingers and toes crossed for you.(lol)
When I had gallstones, I would hurt so bad after eating that I ended up going a week with out eating, because I was terrified it would hurt more.
I ended up having to get my gallbladder taken out, If that is what you have, they might have to take it out too. I was so relieved after it was taken out.
Well, I'm going to close for now, I'll talk to you tomorrow!!

Hi Becky how are you today, glad you have been feeling ok the last couple of days. Same here. Yeah the eating thing is a problem for me too. I had shrimp in garlic cream sauce the other night because I thought oh no way could I tolerate a steak. LOL I think the steak would of been better.
I am off for the ultra sound this morning and have been fasting. I just got out of bed and dying for my morning cuppa and some water. But only an hour to go. I hope they do my kidneys again just to make sure that the right one is ok. Getting closer to your appointment are you still having kidney pain ? Have you had kidney pain or did they just pick that up something on the ultra sound ? probably hydronophresis. It hurts too, your back just about kills you with the pain of that. I am feeling really good this morning. Since the kidney trouble it seems to have moved on and now the digestive problems. But those nexium tablets are great. Anyway gotta go get ready. talk to you soon

Hi Isobelle, Hope all goes well today. I'll be thinking of you. Please let me know what they say!!
I have been feeling a little better, I still have back pain more than anything and still have incontinuence.
I just found out that an 11 year old brought a gun to my childrens school today. I got a letter from the school when my kids came home and with in 15 minutes after reading it, my kids school was on the news. He is 11, after the police showed up, they brought him straight to a juvinile detention center.
I am so glad that one of the children that goes there, told the principal.
I'm glad to hear that the nexium is working, I'm wondering if it might be acid reflex disease.
Well I'm closing for now, Talk to you soon!!!

Hi Becky so glad you are feeling better today, thats great. Terrible news about the boy who brought the gun to school. If I had of been watching fox news or CNN today I may have seen it , but Ive been out all day. Scary stuff, kids with guns its a bit of a worry.
Had the ultrasound today, still got the stone boo hoo and he measured it while I was there and it was 11mm. I said to him last time it was only 10 but he said it was actually 10.8 but they round it up. LOL just like rounding up the dollar like we do here I guess. He said everything else looked fine. No gallstones or anything. Kidneys are still different sizes. One was 97 the other 112 today. I think thats a big difference but Im not sure. Do you know what the difference in size is with yours. ?? Do we say we have a larger kidney on one side or a smaller kidney on the other LOL Anyway wont go back till next Friday as apparently the pictures get sent to some specialist place where they interpret them and then send the results to the doc. But I have the ultra sound pictures to keep.
Its been really hot here today , I went out at 8am this morning had the stuff done, visited my friend for coffee, went out to lunch and then worked until 7pm so I am a bit tired now. Will close off and talk to you later. Stay well.

Hi Isobelle, Boy, that sure does sound like a big difference between sizes!!
I think we have different measuring systems. My right kidney measures 11.0 x 5.6 cm and my left measures 9.5 x 4.1 cm. I think thats a big difference too.
From what I been reading on line is the left kidney is suposed to be a little bigger than the right and usually measure around 12 and 12 and a half in sizes. It says smaller kidneys are sometimes a sign of kidney disease but not always.
I hope that not the case huh??
Well I only have 2 and a half weeks to go (lol) This Week really seems to be going pretty slow.
Well I'll talk to you more tomorrow.

Yours are 111mm and 90mm , you have a much bigger difference in size than me. Your diff is 21mm which is 2.1cm and mine is 15mm which is 1.5 cm

Hi Becky I have an appointment for Friday morning to see the doctor, my blood test results are back but my ultrasound are still not. They should be in tomorrow sometime. Will let you know how I go. The radiologist said that everything looked fine tho so I dunno Im just about ready to rip my hair out LOL. I have had a good day today, but Monday was bad, I was supposed to go out with my friend but had to call and cancel. I just dont think I could of sat at this thing we were going to for too long without wanting to lie down. I have this swelling over my upper abdomen, right under my boobs but going across the top of the rib cage if you know what I mean. Its like a roll LOL and I know its not abs :-)
12 more days to go for you ?? It seems like it takes forever. Im interested to see what they have to say about your kidneys and keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you. Its terrible how we are treated. I had a choice of having an ultrasound and waiting on the list for 2 weeks or having a quicker one at a private place that I had to pay for. Had it at the private place, it cost 150 bucks but I got 80 back from my medical insurance. Anyway heading off to have some dinner. You take care and stay well and let me know how your feeling etc.

Hi Isobelle, Sorry to hear you haven't been feeling to good. I will be so shocked if the doctor says it isn't your gallbladder, I swear it sounds like gallbladder. Either way, I hope they could figure out what it is, so you can get well.
When my gallbladder acted up, I couldn't eat for days. To me, even after having 4 kids, My gallbladder pain was worse than my labor pains.
The good thing is, if it is gallbladder, they can take it out and they give you something for pain!! :D
I have been feeling better as far as pain, but it seems like the incontinuence, is getting worse. I have to wear a pad all day every day for 3 weeks now, and I will be getting my monthly visitor this week. That sucks!!!! I hate wearing pads!!! (lol)
Well I'm closing for now, I have to go feed my kids. Talk to you tomorrow.

Hi Becky yeal LOL I hate wearing pads too - had my visitor last week. Well went to the doctor today , my ultrasound results are still not in but I tested positive for helicobacter pylori. On the triple medication stuff to get rid of it. What a day its been, its been full on. The doctor decided to test my husband as well because of the environment we work in. We have our own business and we deal with the public everyday. Anyway Mike went and had his test so we will find out next week. I had to laugh because when I got menieres disease I had a vertigo attack and fell over and broke my leg and ankle and he was like cant you just get the flu, do you have to get these things with exotic names LOL Anyway today when I told him pylori helicobacter, and that he had to get tested he goes oh geez not another tropical disease LOL....Anyway will do the medication and then see how the kidneys go. Doc said the swelling high on my abdo was not from my stomach as its not up there. But do the medication first , see how I go and then we will sort out that.
So what have you been up to ? How are you feeling ? Counting the days until you can get some relief I'll bet. And especially with that other condition you have as well. Is it worse in the heat or cold ? Or just continous regardless of the weather. ? Gotta go have a cuppa - pity you didnt live nearby LOL. anyway take care talk to you soon. :-) I was trying to add an icon but its got me stuffed how you do it, or what they mean LOL I was just going to pick the cool one with the glasses on.

Hey Isobelle, That does sound like a tropical name!! Thats too funny what your husband said.
I really hope everything is ok . Is the helicobacter pylori a bacterial infection? How do you get it? Is he saying that, that's what he thinks is causing your stomach pain or does he still think it might be something else? Either way, I really hope the antibiotics helps with your pain.
HS short name for what I have, is very painful when it flares up. I notice it more during stressful times. But really can pop up anytime, though it does more in the heat.
I've got a boil on my breast right now!! (ouch) But it looks like its going away!!
Well only 11 days to go!!! I'm going for now, I'll talk to you soon!!

Hi Becky, not long now for you. The helicobacter is a bacteria that lives and thrives in the stomach and causes peptic and gastric ulcers. I did read somewhere that it can cause blockages to other organs. Hence my kidney hydronephresis. Whether this is true or not I dont know. I am doing the triple therapy treatment at the moment. I have had this the whole time I had been just about begging someone to help me. They'd say yeah go drink 3 litres of water, yes take buscopan, yep take metamucil. Im just so elated that I swapped docs and he finds this on the first visit. Ultrasounds were not back within the week, but I guess if there is anything wrong on there they will call me. Doing the triple therapy for a week and see how I go. I just cant fathom that this could cause a person so much pain, and feel that what I have is more than that. But we will see.
Hope your doing alright, its Sunday here, today I am taking my sons mother in law for lunch. I love doing lunch LOL but watching what I eat. Had a small piece of steak last nite and its the first time since before xmas, it was beautiful. Counting the days now for you. Take care talk to you tomorrow.

Hi Becky one week left for you , that is great. At least you will know whats wrong. Yea doing ok on my 7 day triple treatment except today I dont feel so good, must be the antibiotics. On my 5th day today, and the yukky taste it leaves in your mouth is the pits.I have a pain on my left side too its like left sided appendicitis. I swear its my kidney stone, but the docs reckon I shouldnt feel it.
When I was over at the digestive forum I read that a lot of people are taking the probiotic drink which keeps your tummy healthy. I thought if you got some too you might feel a little better perhaps. I bought some myself and have one in the morning and one before bed. What date is your appointment again ? I will be thinking of you that day and waiting for news of how you go.
Must go talk to you soon

Hi Becky sorry to hear that your son isnt feeling the best, its rotten having a sore throat and I hope he feels better soon. Four days to go Wow - your wait has been so long, its so unfair. At least maybe you will have an answer in a few days. I certainly hope so.
Yep finished my treatment last nite and not feeling real good today. My abdomen is burning right across my breast line and is filled with fluid which has made like a big bulge across the top. Havent been back to find out about my ultrasound but I figure if I had anything they would call me. Im going to wait another week and see how this pain goes and then go back again. Its on both sides so Im still not convinced its not my kidneys and I dont believe for one minute that an ultrasound and a 24 hour urine test covers everything for kidneys. Sitting here with a heat bag on LOL. My hubby will be home in a min so gotta toddle - keep me informed how you are doing. talk to you soon

When I went back the doctor said my bladder was fine so I didn't need surgery. My obgyn says my uterus is really low but she isn't going to do anything for it since it isn't causing any problems. Hi Becky wishing you all the best for tomorrow and good luck. When I first went the urologist looked at my kidneys on the ultrasound machine, then he wrote me out a pathology thing to have a blood test and 24 hour urine test. They measure the amount of creatinine in your urine and blood etc to see how well your kidneys are functioning and also what your stone is made of if you have a stone. Then I went over to the x ray dept and had a KUB x ray. Where they just x ray the kidneys ureter and bladder. Sometimes they do the one with dye in it. So yes you could probably have those tests done tomorrow. But as soon as they look at your kidneys with the ultrasound machine they will decide what tests you need. Feeling a bit better today. Take it easy today as tomorrow will be a biggy for you. So all the best and let me know :-)

Oh Gee Becky things take forever dont they. Glad you have been and had your tests etc. No I didnt have a vcug I had a KUB ( kidney ureter and bladder ) x ray to see if there were any stones causing the hydronphrosis. My hydronophorosis is gone now so I dont know what actually caused that.
I dont think someone who does the x rays will tell you what they see because usually someone does the x rays and then they get passed onto someone who actually reads the x rays LOL its one big merry go round. But one never knows. Im glad your having the ivp x ray because I think thats the most important one. It will show up whatever a normal x ray misses I think. Did they say what they thought was wrong with you or anything ? Are you doing the 24 hour urine test ? Cause yes they take a week for the results to come back. Did I tell you that the truck that was carrying a load of reports from the radiology dept that I had my ultrasounds on rolled over and caught fire ? Yep and guess what my reports were in there. The docs receptionist said she would get another faxed through, show it to the doc and if there was anything wrong he would call me in. So far I havent heard anything so so good. I said to my hubby can you believe that and he said yep, it can only happen to us. I have finished my antibiotic treatment for the helicobacter and my tummy just feels like its on fire, those little beasties must of made a real meal out of me. Anyway keep me up to date how your going and how your tests go etc. Im so glad you have finally go there, even if it does take a little while to get sorted out. You can join the merry go round with me. Anyway take care and talk to you soon.

Hey Isobelle, Sorry to hear about the truck with your reports catching on fire!! That would be my luck!! (lol) I'm not sure what the 24 hour urine test is. They told me to pee in a cup and they took it, so I'm not sure what they are checking with it.
This doctor didn't say what he thought it was, He said the pain that I have and the leakage has nothing to do with what the other doctor found on my ultrasound. He said that it has nothing to do with my left kidney being smaller than the right.
The IVP will see anything thats going on with the kidneys and the other test will show whats going on with my bladder!!!
We will find out whats going on!! (lol)
How are you feeling today?? Good I hope.

Hi Ashpie, No I don't think it's Lichen Scleros. I have been doing better with it, It comes and goes and I don't think Lichen Scleros comes and goes. I could be wrong though. I think it has to do with the problem with my kidney. I'll have to ask the doctor next time I see him.
Have you been to the doctor yet? Hope you feel better!!!

Hi Isobelle, I was starting to worry about you!!!
I won't get the tests done until March 15.
Have you gotten any results back yet? Have you been feeling any better?
I've been doing pretty good as far as my kidneys, but I'm having a flare up right now with my disease though and that's pretty painful!!
How is your pain with your stomach? I'm sure by now you are finished with your antibiotics, Has it helped any?
I'll check back in tomorrow.

Hi Becky - sorry to hear you are having a flare up with your disease and hope you get some relief from it. Is it an ongoing forever type disease that will not go away and do you flare up often. Bummer about those tests taking so long too, but hopefully they will figure out whats wrong and get you fixed up.
I have been really good for the past two weeks after the antibiotics, still taking the nexium too. The last couple of days tho I have been feeling a bit off. I will finish the nexium and then go for a breath test and make sure I have got rid of helicobacter. If not it will be another round of antibiotics.
My kidney stone has been good though I only feel it now and then, I think it must move around sometimes or something or when I bend over. Doc said if I drink heaps of water I might be able to dissolve it over a period of time. LOL like probably years. Will keep a check on it tho as its quite big and if it gets too big it will have to be removed. Have to stay off tea completely as its full of oxalate. But I cant resist a cuppa in the morning ( or any other part of the day ) for that matter. Anyway keep in touch and keep me up to date with your progress and take care in the mean time wont you.
talk to you soon

My husband is looking for a job offshore, He'll be gone for 3 weeks at a time and home for a week. But the good thing is, he'll be making alot more money!!! :D We really need it!!! I think we'll have health insurance too, I hope!!

Hi Becky - Not too long for that appointment now , I will be going the week after you for that endoscopy. Have you had one of those before ?? Im a bit scared. And I couldnt get my kidney appointment until the 29th April as he is fully booked out...bummer. But it doesnt matter that much as its not as if I have anything seriously wrong anyway, so best those that need the appointments before me get fixed up first.
I wonder sometimes if medical insurance is really worth having. In the states is it always that the employers pay for your medical ins ? or can you pay for your own in a private fund ? We have private medical which covers us for private hospitals, specialists , private rooms etc. But who wants a private room anyway. When I go to see the doc about my endoscopy, he is actually a surgeon. They said I have to pay $105 dollars , but I will get a rebate of $50 from medicare. ( not my private health fund ).
Glad the kids are fine. You will probably get lonely with your hubby gone for all that time. My friends hubby is a driller and he is gone for weeks on end sometimes. Im going to toddle off now because mine will be home from work in 5 mins and will want my absolute attention LOL typical male.

Hi Isobelle!!! I went and got the tests done today!!!! Finally!!! I won't know the results till next month though. They put the cathedere (msp) in and since I've gotten home, it burns so bad when I pee, I hope this doesn't last long!!! Do you know how long it should last? They didn't mention anything about it burning afterwards but I did suspect that it would and I totally for got to ask them about it.
Have you heard anything about your test yet? Please let me know when you do!!

Hi Becky - great news that you have eventually got those tests done. Do you mean they put in a stint ? Or is it a catheter ? with a bag attatched or something. Anyway is it helping you any. I guess LOL without sounding gross, anything you put in there would sting. Give it a couple of days and see how you go. I go for the endoscopy on the 23rd March, next week. And dont go to see the kidney doc until the 29th April another 6 weeks away. The kidney doc is one that travels here once a month because I live in the outback. Its very hard to get into the visiting specialists here, unless you want to pay to travel and visit them. But Im quite fine so will wait for him to come here then find out if they are going to blast my stone, leave it or whatever. Have been feeling really great lately. How about you. I bet you are relieved at having those tests done. I honestly believe that sometimes you can have one thing that leads up to other things if you know what I mean. I said to my husband the other day, not many people could say that they have had .....Bells palsy, menieres disease and helicobacter pylori LOL
Anyway gotta run survivor is just about to start and Im an avid fan.
talk later.

Hi Isobelle, They put a catheter in. The burning pain was gone by the next morning. Thank goodness!!! Today you are getting your endoscopy done, Good Luck!!
Let me know how it goes.
You had bell's palsy? I had that when I was 9 or 10. My mom said it was caused by some virus I had and it lasted a few months.
I go back to the urologist on April 22, still a ways away. I'll talk to you soon!!

Im going to the urologist on the 29th April ( a week after you ). Just doing oxolate tests at the moment. The blood test and the 24 hour urine test. Will let you know how I go next week. Talk soon

Hi Becky I was going to look for this thread last nite and post to you as I hadnt heard from you in awhile. So sorry to hear about your mother in law - that is not good news. I hope her surgery goes well.
All well here ( touch wood ) stomach is doing fine after that second lot of treatment. Did I tell you they found a hiatus or hiatal hernia or whatever it is called while I had the endoscopy ? Anyway its not bothering me so , so far so good. I had a back tooth out last week tho lol and its giving me all the grief in the world. I think Im just a born sooky baby.
Let me know when you get your results back wont you. Im seeing the urologist on the 29th of this month so will let you know how I go with whether the stone is staying or going.
Hope you hubby and the kids are all doing fine, its cooling down here and moving into winter so you guys should be getting some nice spring weather I would imagine....Will take off as I have some things to go do.

Hi Isobelle, Glad you are doing better. Are they giving you anything for your hital hernia? I've been taking an acid reducer for mine. The other medicine I was taking, made my hernia worse.
I only have 2 days left, Hopefully will find out what's going on.
Let me know are yours goes ok?
We have been having really nice weather. It's been in the 70's here and a little breezy. I love keeping my door and windows open.

Hi Becky I have been on holiday for a week so forgive me for not answering. I had the ivp x ray , it took two hours. I dont have the results until I see the urologist on Thursday but I'll bet they say the same thing to me too, the x ray person already said that my large stone is not causing any blockage. And besides its the other side that hurts. Will let you know what he says after Thursday.
take care

Hi Becky how are you ? Long time no see...
I have seen the urologist who said my kidney stone will be staying right where it is. They cant blast it because its in a lower diverticuli ? diverticulum...something like that, he said if he blasted it, the fragments have got no where to go. With this type of thing they usually do the surgery where they go in with a wire, but because at the moment its not causing any blockage he will leave it where it is. I have to go back in 6 months and have another x ray to see how much bigger ( if any ) its got. I still have my right sided pain. I went to see the doc the other day and Im back on Nexium as he reckons its acid reflux from my hernia.
