Can't low carb diets be dangerous??
Of course!! Take a look at the thread 'Atkins Lies' to read more... And look around the internet, not just at testimonials of those who say they love Atkins, look at the ones who hated it and the ones who became ill or had kidney/other organ problems on it. A high protein, high fat diet is NOT good for you. It's absurd to think you can eat all the meat and fat you want and still be healthy. Your body needs carbs, regardless of what others say about the low carb diets. No, potatoes and pasta aren't horribly bad foods! Fruits are good for you! All starches and sugary fruits should be eaten in moderation, that's all, just like everything else. For example, a baked potato w/lite sour cream and broccoli is a HEALTHY meal. A well-balanced diet is the best diet. Your body needs it all, fat, protein and CARBS.
Take care

"Low carb" is a very general term, and the regimes people follow in the name of "low carb" range from not very healthy to very healthy. It is like just about any other eating regime whether you call it "low cal" or "low fat" or "food pyramid" or whatever; when put into practice, some people do it in a healthy way and others don't.
I agree about reading about different eating regimes. But start with the books written by the people who developed them. This will equip you to recognize the ill-informed, inaccurate hysteria when you go to the internet to see what real people's experiences have been.
Good luck!
