Hi. I really want to do a colon cleansing after reading a bunch about it on the internet. However, the scant "regimes" I have found all involve using some guru's special formula. I'm not convinced that I must use one of these formulas - I think someone out there knows how to go about this using "real" food and herbs. That's where you come in!

Please let me know of a "diet" regime to follow to do a really good colon cleansing. Thanks!

You could always do a colon cleanse by going and having a colonic irrigation treatment performed. This is quick and will do it all in one go, rather than following a diet, that you would need to follow for longer to have the same effect. They will also give you probiotic inplants following the treatment and this will fully cleanse your system, give you better energy due to the toxin removal and make you feel better generally.

Good luck.

You can't really do a colon cleanse just using food unfortunately. I used to do colonics but now am trying a program of herbal formulae from Dr. Richard Schulze. So far it seems to be doing something, but it is too early to tell how good it is yet, especially since I have not gotten into formula #2 yet (the REAL stuff). I tried another though a few months ago by Rainbow Light and the ingredients really gave me intense abdominal cramping. So be careful and if you choose a product, go slowly with it.

Colon cleansing without replacing the good bacteria seems flawed to me.

In my battle with an environmental illness, keeping the colon clean is of utmost importance.

I use two methods periodicaly with good results.

1) Lemon Juice Enema

2) powdered Flax Seeds

Unless you believe you have some problems with you digestive tract, cleaning it for no reason doesn't make sense to me. What make you think you need it now and not before?

I personally am not into the colonics and enema thing. I don't know of any good research to support these practices. I think the best way to go about cleansing the body is to use herbs and eat a proper diet based on natural foods and lots of fiber. I recommned preparing teas and/or decoctions of certain herbs, which you can buy at health food store that sells bulk herbs. Some of my favorite cleansing decoction herbs are: Dandelion root, Burdock root, Sarsaparilla root, Cat's Claw, Pau D'Arco, Licorice root. This blend actually tastes pretty good. I think its better to take the time and prepare your own cleansing blend because alot of the herbal supplements you can buy are not very potent and bound up with lots of fillers, binders, excipients, coatings, etc. Good luck. Let know if any ?s. Best,

Ramsemonius.

People swear by these, I wouldn't suggest more than 2 a year. And the first time u clean yourself out, you will feel rather good for a while..... Most traditional Doctor's, which now means a doctor instructs u on what to do and why, and pharmaceutical companies get rich off of you..

Uh anyway, Majority of doctor's question the wisdom of a colonic. Usually one does it in prepping for something like a colonoscopy. I don't think they like that it flushes good stuff out as well.. and they probably hope you don't do it a lot, and to the point of "lazy colon" (??) or something like that, basically u can't go poop naturally. It became used to having a chemical, natural or synthetic, and that is that.

And uhh, a note on "natural", just because some thing is considered natural, doesn't mean it is safe and healthy..

Yes, a lot of traditional MD's question the wisdom of colonics and that is because they know nothing about the procedure at all themselves and it just takes patients away from them that they can just stuff full of laxatives and other kinds of drugs.

I have had several colonics myself and have found them extremely useful. At the time I started having them though, I did have a lot of stomach and allergy problems.

Also, colonics will not cause a lazy colon at all. A colonic basically cleans out your colon and also other waste that has built up within it over several months. This waste is washed out with water at a controlled temperature and by getting rid of these toxins, it can make you feel a lot better.

Laxatives however, can cause dependency and can cause a lazy colon, so that you cannot have a BM without them. This is because laxatives constantly stimulate the colon to act. A colonic irrigation does not do this at all. It does not stimulate the colon in any way, but washes it out with water.

Also, when you have a colonic, because your colon is being washed out, then a lot of the bowel flora does get removed by this process, however, just before the end of a colonic you will be given probiotics back via the machine to redress this balance so that your bowel is re-colonised. You can also continue taking probiotics orally afterwards if you wish to.

Also, there is research out there as to the benefits of colonic hydrotherapy, however to may have to look to Britain for this, as this seems to be the most recent and up to date.

Hey Sarah:
I am thinking of going in for colon irrigation as I too have problems with my stomach, mainly lazy digestion, breathing problems as a result. Did you have similar problems and were they really resolved with one session of colon irrigation? And above all, how safe is this method? Are there particular things I have to look out for in search of a specialist who will perform this on me? Thanks!

Yes, I did have stomach problems when I decided to have colonic irrigation and no, I needed about 3 sessions initially. However, I still have sessions now when I feel I need them, but not very often and I do not have stomach problems any more. This is not only due to the help of colonics, but also the use of alternative meds.

If you go to a fully qualified practitioner, then it is a very safe procedure. I found an ND in my area that did it, but if you can't find an ND, you need to try and find someone with medical training, such as an RN or at least that they have a thorough grounding in A and P and pathology too, so that they know what they are doing.

Also ensure that they have the latest equipment, which includes a machine where you can control water temp and also how long you keep the water in the colon too. You should also be able to give probiotics back via the machine at the end of a treatment. This is the pressure pump method rather than the old gravity method which is now going out of fashion. Also ensure a sterile environment and means of disposal of the speculum and the whole rig after treatment. Also, there needs to be a restroom provided nearby for after the treatment.

Go and check out a few and see what you think and if you don't like the look of them, then don't go. I was very lucky with my ND though. Although most ND's should offer colonics these days as it is part of their naturopathic training and is an included treatment that forms part of naturopathic training.

Good luck anyway.

Sarah:
Thanks a lot for your advice. I am unsure whether the problems I have will be helped by colon irrigation. But I suppose it is worth a try. Did you have similar problems ie digestion difficulty hence breathing problems and acidity along with bloating and gas?
Thanks again.

Yes, I used to suffer with a lot of the problems that you mention, along with some others, but I do not anymore and it was a combination of the colonic irrigation and other natural therapies that really helped me.
