I'm not sure if shaving is the right way to go unless you're fair and the hair is light. You may want to try lightening it instead, but if you're really gung-ho on removing it completely, I personally would try Nair or some other hair-removeable process that will remove the hair below the skin line and not be as noticeable as shaving. Waxing is another way to go but that can be painful so my first suggestion would be Nair.

I shaved my arms when I was a kid and yes, it grew back much thicker. It's also ugly to have stubble on your arms, which is what you'll have if you don't shave it each day. Why not get a trimmer (like for mens beards) and trim it down real low. If the hair is dark and still noticable then you could bleach the shorter hair and it will pretty much disappear. If you bleach it without trimming it first it will be a bit less noticable but still quite visible.

Shaving your arms DOES NOT make the hair grow back thicker. It does, however, make the regrowth have a blunt edge, which makes it appear to look like there's more hair (but there's not). Its just that the hair growing back will look "fatter".
I have to agree that shaving is not always your best alternative. The stubble can look odd, and if you rub up against someone they will definitely feel the burn. Unless you do it every other day or so, it'll become a nuisance. Waxing or sugaring is the best way to go for arms, but if you're sensitive to the pain, try a lotion hair remover like Nair first. But ALWAYS do a patch test. I made the mistake of not doing one several years ago, and my legs still have scars from the burns I received from the product (I have super sensitive skin). Good luck!

Hi
I had very hairy arms too and three years ago I started waxing. And now they are very thin and nearly not noticeable, if I let them grow.
Waxing is the best way to do it. Get it done the first time at a salon.
Good luck.

I've read in magazines and even heard from doctors that shaving does not cause hair to grow in thicker or darker, but I belive from personal experience that it does. I had blonde (almost white) leg hair when I started shaving at twelve years. after shaving only two times, it was dark brown. now its black. Just ask any man....If boys want their beards to grow in thicker and more noticeably, they shave more often. so please be careful in your decision...once you decide to shave you may have to almost every day FOREVER!

Hey. Well this isn't exactly advice or anything, but a friend of mine shaves/Nairs her arms and she told me that she gets cold easily because, well you know, the hair being gone and everything. Everyone is different but, Just a comment..

It does not hurt at all! Waxing, I would not suggest. It is very messy and waxing is painful! I would just shave it off, and if anyone has a problem with it, just ask what was more attractive: Hairy arms or hairless arms?? Hope this helps, And yes, the hair coming back will be a tad bit darker, but the same amount of hair.

Shaving does not make hair grow any different. The hair grows, you shave and it looks blunt. Just think about it. How can you change that by shaving off the top of a hair?
Now waxing is what I do. THAT changes the hair because you rip it OUT! ha. It really is good though. It makes it thinner each time and grows slower. It does hurt, but stays smooth and the hair that grows back is not blunt like shaving. I use the wax you see on TV. The lady from Australia. Works well. Good luck.

I have been shaving my arms for atleast 8 years and never had a problem except for a nick or two. I have olive skin and lots of dark hair. I didn't like it on my arms and I was also competing in swimsuit competitions so I shaved it off. Nair and other products gave me an allergic reaction. My hair grows very fast...I shave my legs in the am and they are prickly by night...but I don't have to shave my arms everyday! I may go a week or more w/out doing so and even when I do it's usually a quick shave unless I'm doing it for a photoshoot and really want it all clean. If you do so, just be careful around your elbows and wrist bones....think ankles and knees.
I also shave my stomach...which I did in high school, however that hair below the navel did grow back darker and courser...it was blonde. Some of my friends had the same problem, but the doctor told me that was a hormonal thing. I've since had it zapped w/a laser and rarely have to shave it.

I also have hairy arms.... and unfortately, I get it from my dad. But I also have dark hair on my legs and arms, so I shave every day because I don't like hairy legs. On the other hand... I've thought about shaving my arms. And decided not to. Because 1) it grows back thicker.... AND FASTER.... 2) It will be itchy growing back and 3) shaving my arms once will make it grow back longer than before so I'll never be able to quit shaving once i regret it.....
hope this helps... I wouldn't do it!!! I know I didn't because I have shaving my legs every day as it is.

Perhaps you could shave just a small patch on part of your arm that most people don't see. Then you can see for yourself how you react with growth, color, etc.. But, as I stated earlier, I have been shaving my arms for year and I appear in National Magazines...and I don't have to shave my arms for every photo shoot b/c it really doesn't grow back darker and faster or curly or thick. Only hormones can change the texture or color of your hair.
