Hi,
I am a 38 yr old female who started with a burning sensation in my right ear. This occured on occassion & the doctors couldn't find anything wrong. The burning pain grew to the area all around my ear. One day I had the burning pain in my ear & right eye with extreme nausea. Lately, the burning & pressure pain encompasses the entire right side of my head (mostly where the right side meets the back) & in my right eye. It is there all day long. I get shooting pains on occassion on that side & sometimes get a pressure headache on the top of my head, like a regular tension headache. Light & sound does not bother me & I rarely feel sick to my stomach. I've been on 20mg of propanolol for the past 2 weeks & only had a few days without headache. Ibuprofren seems to relieve the pressure. I go back to the doctor in 2 wks. He said if I still have these headaches at that time, then I will need a CT scan. My neuro exam was find & I don't have any other symptoms that I am aware of. I am worried & scared to death that I have a brain tumor. Oh, today my scalp feels tingly on the side of the pressure. Has anyone else had this problem? My doc said it sounds like a migraine variation, but I don't have throbbing, only pressure & burning. Thanks!

Hi! I have had very strange head pains for the past few months. They don't really fit into any category (i.e. migraine or tension headache). They are basically sharp, electric typse shocks that I get on the right side. I also experience tension type pressure on that side. I've tried several medications and nothing works. I was also suffering severe anxiety because I though something was seriously wrong. I have had a CT Scan and a MRI which both came back completely normal, which helped relieve some of the fear. You should tell your doctor that this is interfering with your life and causing you excessive worry and that you would like the CT scan to ease your mind. Once you have that checked, it will make you feel better.
My pains still come and go and I have been to three neurologists, and ENT, and my internist. All of them say I am completely healthy. I hope you find some relief from the worry, as that always makes the symptoms worse. Take care.

What you described could be either sinus or cluster headaches from the sound of it. I get clusters and never have problems with nausea or vomiting or light sensitivity. That is typical of a migraine. Also with clusters you get a burning sensation by the ear/check area and a stabbing pain with it on your head. Migraine is trobbing and pulsating. Also the pain is one sided and radiates around your eye with clusters. Do a google search on cluster headaches and you will find an online support group for this type of headache. On that site is a list of syptoms and a quiz you can take to see if that is what you suffer from. If it isn't clusters I would guess it to be sinus. I remember feeling like I was dying and thinking I had to be dying of something so terrible. I had the MRI and it came back normal. Very few people have brain tumors. However I would recomend you get in to see a neuro who specializes in headaches and request an MRI. You will get the best treatment there.

Wow. I have the same thing, sort of. A few months ago it started...
My right ear would get really hot (not red) and the inner part of my ear would hurt. The pain would radiate from the inner part of my ear to a shooting pain down my neck. Recently, my head has started hurting in the front (on the same side) after the ear gets hot and the neck pain starts. I've had a headache for a few days now, and nothing will help ease the pain.
I went to the doctor, and he seems to have no idea what it is. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to these spells. They come and go at various times while I'm doing various types of activities. He's recommended I see and ENT, but now I'm not sure that is the way to go. Anything else I can do for these aches?

Hi!! I have had some of the same symptoms as you. I actually put a post up...(Could this be cranial neuralgia?). I've had 3 MRI's, a CAT scan, and a CT scan...all normal. I've seen a dentist to test for TMJ disease, a chiro, an ENT, a family doctor, and finally a neurologist. None of them know what is wrong with me. The closest thing I got to a diagnosis was "neuralgia". Just yesterday I was put on Desipramine. It's an old antidepressant but when taken in lower dosages it's used for pain. I woke up this morning with a headache....so, I'll have to give it time to see if it works. My neurologist said that I obviously have something wrong with me but "our technology must not be able to pick it up". So I think it's probably a type of cranial neuralgia. I did a lot of research on it and I'd suggest that you do the same thing. THere's different types depending on the symptoms...trigeminal, occipital...etc. It was very encouraging to be able to possibly KNOW what was wrong with me. It gave me some hope and really motivated me to talk to my doctor to see if that was an option. The post I put up goes into more detail if you want to read it.
Anyway I totally felel your pain about this! Chronic pain is a killer! I've had days where I missed work or class (I'm a college student) or I had to cancel plans! But I just got my butt in gear and I'm not giving up until I find out what is wrong with me.

Hi..read my post...Could this be cranial neuralgia. :)
Because...I TOTALLY understand what you are talking about. I've had 3 MRI's, a CAT scan, and a CT scan. I've seen an ENT and he told me that what I described (the same thing you did in your post..almost exactly), is neurolgical. I'd go right to a neurologist and not waste $ on the ENT. But you'll probably need a referral from a family doctor. I did anyway.
I feel so bad for you because I have the same pain and I know how bad it is. Especially the ear thing...because it hurts like an ear ache...but there is no infection!

Sounds a lot like the cluster headaches that I've dealt with. You should check out www.Clusterheadaches.com,
they have a lot of of good info and a lot of sympathetic people.

Hi,
I have very similar symptoms to yours and i think mine are occipital in nature - coming from my neck - disc disease - have you had any luck in finding help.

I happened upon your post. I get terrible pressure in my head. I have had all the tests and nothing seems to be wrong. One doctor thinks I have Meniere's Disease since I have horrible balance and now often walk like a duck. I have dizzy spells that are rotational but not as often as I just feel sort of dizzy. That happens a lot. I don't drive when I feel that way to be safe. The pressure does seem the worst when the barometer drops. It becomes very severe. I sometimes feel hot as the pressure climbs.. It makes me feel tired, and just plain awful. My entire personality changes as it seems like such a chore to carry on a conversation no matter who it might be. Several doctors have tried to tell me I have migrains but these do not feel like headaches they just feel like terrible increasing pressure inside my head and sometimes at the base of my skull. I truly hate the feeling.
