I have a bad case of being very anti-social, shy, and I lack self confidence. Do you think the drug Paxil could help me in my situation?

If you don't suffer from panic disorder or depression, do not go on any med just to overcome shyness. You have no idea how taking these meds can affect you & also you don't want to take them if it's not necessary.

I went on their web site and saw this and was very interested. Check it out. http://www.paxil.com/sad/sa_ln.html I have a real hard time meeting new people and talking to people at social gatherings. What does this drug acually do? From my understanding it builds up your serotonin levels. MDMA (Ecstasy) does the same thing but releases it all at once. I read some where that someone woke up in the morning after taking Paxil and had huge pupils, thats one of the side effects of MDMA.

Dear ReBoRn,
Do you know anything about seritonin and how serious it is to mess around with? What does Ecstasy have to do with anything that you need to know about? A person with low seritonin is more prone to violence without a thought of what they do. Raising the seritonin level makes a person more passive. This was proven as fact by the military in testing soldiers that liked to kill in battle and the same testing on natural born killers in prison. Raising the seretonin level to high can cause a syndrome that can be fatal. You need to quit reading crap from the drug companies and get some therapy. You don't need paxil or anything else for that matter for the problem you say you have. Don't get caught up in something you for sure will not want and don't need. Be careful

Sincerely,

Sickman :)

Are you ever afraid to goto the mall because your afraid of what people will think of you? Do you ever pass up a party because your to afraid to talk to anyone their? Have you ever gone to school one day and not talked to anyone except teachers? Thats the way my life is, its like im in a prison where I cant live the way I want, I wish I could but I dont know how to communicate correctly or something...

I've felt all those things that you mentioned and more...it might be nothing more than simply shyness on your part.
Like Sickman and LoriJ said, Paxil isn't something you want to mess with.
Take Sickmans advice and talk to someone about the way you feel.

There are self help books that you can get that teach you ways to deal with your "shyness". Look up social anxiety, and see if that will help out. You have all the symtoms....not being able to communicate with others, how are you in presentations??? Can you get up infront of people and talk, or in functions that require you to interact with others where you the focal point? This should be your first step....read and see what there is you can do without drugs.....I'm on paxil now for 4 months.....it isn't pleasant....dry mouth, constapation, sweats at night, headaches. Do I need to say more?? Meds should be the last line, try the self help books...do some research...best of luck.....

Paxil sucks, its just a money making scheme. It doesn't help at all. Just makes you ****, and makes your pupils HUGE.
