Can a person know if they have high eye pressure without having a pressure test done? Any pain or any thing like that. My eye doctor told me that because the way my optic nerve is tilted in one of my eyes that I might end up with glaucoma in that eye, in the furture. My problem is, I have histoplasmosis and cataracts in both my eyes and I'm already legelly blind with only low vision. I'm scared that glaucoma might sneak up on me without noticing it, because of already bad eye sight. I am scare to death of losing any more eye sight. I see my eye doctor every 6 months. Thanks for any advice or comments.

No pain is associated with the pressure...unless it gets SUPER high (never experienced it)....I was being seen by one of my docs associates for a while and I told her I needed a NEW perscription because I could no longer take the one I was on....it hurt too bad....she NEVER got me one so I was off my drops for a month before I could get someone to listen to me. My pressure at that time was pretty high but I couldn't feel it.

And there is no way to find out what your pressure is (that I know of) without a pressure test.

If your that worried....talk to your doc about getting on a three month visit....if you end up developing it...your gonna be asked to go in that often any how to check the pressure and make sure that your eye drops are working to control it.

My eyes are extremely sensitive and whenever my pressure goes up I get a slight headache, kinda like a sinus headache, behind my eyes. My eyes also begin to feel very tired like I cannot keep them open. It especially hurts with movement. I also start to see some floaters and flashers. If you feel more comfortable being checked more often because of all the other eye problems, your doctor should not object. Be very vigilant and if you notice any sort of change in the way your eyes feel or change in your vision, go to the doctor right away.

Just curious, was your pressure high at your last visit?

No my eye pressure has always been between 16 and 20. I was told that when it gets to 25, then a person needs to worry. It is just something I worry about. I believe that I will start to see another eye doctor here in this area every 6 months, but have them so they are only 3 months from my regular eye doctor appointments. I see a VA. doctor at a Veterans Hospital that is a 2 and a half hour drive away. Low vision sucks. lol

Another ophthalmologist or even an optometrist can certainly check your eye pressure for you. Then if it gets higher, you know to go back to your ophthalmologist at the VA hospital sooner. Also, even if you do begin to have high pressure, it is treatable with anti-glaucoma drops or even surgical procedures, if need be. Glaucoma doesn't have to cause blindness if you catch it and treat it.

Nothing crazy about that, if you have a Doctor you really like, a person is willing to make the trip. My longest trip to a Doctor was from Germany to Walter Reed Hospital in Washington DC for emergency lazer surgery. lol
