My question is although I am unable to do the Atkins diet due to being Epileptic and my szrs are either triggered by hormones or lack of natural carbs and fibre in my diet. I am still interested in the Atkins concept as it has the the UK in the last six months in a big way.
Several of my friends and work colleagues have tried it some have been succesful but I must say the majority did not get on with it and this was due to constipation, bad breath, fainting, feeling very tired and grumpy.
Do these symptoms go or what can you do to combat them.......

Hi. There are a lot of people that start it and quit, thinking it is the wrong plan for them. This is because, in truth, the first week can be very difficult as your body adjusts to almost no carbs, when most of us have become used to comsuming tons of carbs. I almost quit that first week. I was weak, shaky, and lethargic. Now, I feel just fine and I don't get that typical "middle of the afternoon lazy feeling." The bad breath thing is a reality. It's called "ketone breath" and occurs because you are releasing ketones through your breath and your urine. It's not the same type of bad breath as you would have from poor oral hygeine or from eating garlic. Drinking lots of water and using sugar free mints will help with this. I really like the fact that I don't feel bloated anymore and tired all the time. But yes, that first week is a huge drag.

I agree. The first week is the hardest. If you can get past that, it's a piece of cake!
