Hello
I am 15 years old and have been having some annoying symptoms and was wondering if they could be related to kidney disease. I have had morning nausea (just nausea, ive only vomitted from it 2x) for over a year now. I have frequent urination, i go all the time and i get up at night (which i hate, i just want to sleep!) I also had protein in my urine, i think it was only 1+( had the urine test like 8 months ago) But ive noticed latley that my urine is more bubbly than it used to be. At first i wasnt sure if it was because of the protein but i heard that excercise makes u have more protein, and after practice my urine is more bubbly so thats why i was thinking it was protein in my urine. My urine is usually always bubbly, its just worse after exercise (which, i know, is normal). I'm also always cold, especially my hands and feet. On my dad's side of the family they all have problems with high blood pressure but not kidney disease.
I've also had a small problem with dehydration, im thirsty a lot and always have dry lips. i told my dr. about how when i exercise, i have to stop or ill get sick (which i have many times) its become a problem w/ me because i exercise a lot. My dr. told me i was dehydrated and to drink more water and gatorade. I did all of that, but it didnt make a difference. I mentioned this b/c i heard that the kidneys have something to do with balancing electrolytes or something.
Some of the tests I have had done are:
ct and mri of the head (b/c of nausea i guess)
i had a blood test over a yr ago (dont know specific ones though)
5 hr glucose tolerance test
upper gi
Sorry for the length, but if anyone could respond i would appreciate it. I hope my kidneys are fine, but on the other hand I want to feel better. I just hate feeling sick in the morning( i take tigan which helps a little) and ive missed school, or gone in late b/c of it, i go to a really tough school, and its hard for me to make up work. But anyways, thanks for taking to the time to read this

Hmmmmm....this is strange.
Have your symptoms gotten any better or worse in the year that you've had them?
Is there any history of diabetes in your family?
You're right that you can have temporary protein in your urine after you exercise, but the fact that you had protein in your urine at a previous doctor's visit AND the fact that you're having these symptoms now, warrants a visit to the nephrologist or at least a 24 hour urine protein measurement.
Have you had any problem with "puffiness" or swelling? Especially around the eyes, ankles, in the belly etc.
How has your energy level been?

Hi,
thanks for your reply. My symptoms have gotten worse. I dont have a history of diabetes in my family, except my grandfather has type 2 diabetes, but I was already tested for diabetes. NO, I haven't noticed any swelling around my eyes or feet.

Yes you can...the puffiness and the swelling comes from the fact that proteins in the blood help to draw in fluid from the tissues when the fluid leaves the vessels to deliver nutrients at the capillary beds. This is in a balance so the fluid that ends up leaving the vessels ends up returning back to the vessels; however, if you're losing protein in your urine, the fluid that leaves is not drawn back as strongly due to the lack of proteins in the blood and it stays out in the tissues and you get swelling.
Have you gotten an appointment to see someone yet?

Again, thanks for your reply. No I haven't gotten an appointment yet. I guess Ill ask my mom to set one up, I haven't really mentioned anything to her about my worries about my symptoms, I dont know why, I guess I'm just worried that I'm being over dramatic or a hypochondriac about all this. Well, I know my mom has to call about getting my prescription refilled so maybe I'll ask for an appointment. Again, Thank You.
