starting the beginning of december, i started counting my calorie intake. i tried doing the 1000cal/day. ive read all over that you should eat around 1500cal/day, so i thought the 1000cal/day would help me lose weight. its been about a month, and ive only maintained weight, maybe even gained 1-2 lbs. (im at my mothers for the holidays, so i havent had a chance to weigh myself because she doesn't have a scale) ive done SOME exercise (probably 15 min jogging 3-4 times a week). does this mean my metabolism is slow??? how do i raise my metabolism? in the months before, ive did more exercising, weight training and it helped me get some muscles. i thought that the more muscle u have, the higher your metabolim. but it feels as if my metabolim is going down. HELP!?

also......... ive become SOOOO hungry! all i think about is food. i NEVER feel full. im always starving. what can help me solve this problem?

You need to eat more calories. 1000 is not enough, and therefore, your body thinks it is starving, and holds on to every precious little bit. You should aim for about 1500 and your body will most likely start dropping pounds. Also, are you exercising? In order to lose weight, you need to burn more than you take in, and exercise will raise your metabolism to help you burn more.

If you are always hungry, try eating small meals every three hours instead of breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Long periods between eating can cause insulin spike, which makes you crave foods and feel starved. For example try:

Breakfast:
English muffin w/tsp of light butter

Mid-morning:
Fat free yogurt

Lunch:
Chicken breast with steamed vegetables
sugar free jello or pudding cup

Mid-afternoon:
Banana or apple

Dinner:
whole wheat pasta with homemade tomato sauce (canned sauce from store with your own spices, much healthier than the stuff in jars)
slice of italian bread with tsp. light margarine
salad with lite italian dressing
sugar-free jello

You'll feel more satisfied, and less inclined to binge on naughty foods, because you won't be starving.

Very good advice, TheLizzy! Also, dring LOTS and LOTS of water. Sometimes when you think you're hungry, your body is really craving water. Good luck! :)

You should be eating more than 1000 calories a day. Depending on your age, height & current weight, & activity level, you should be eating probably between 1500-1800 or more calories a day. Also...a question for you...have you completely cut out fat? If so, that can actually keep you from losing weight. Have at least two servings of (good) fat per day, in addition to what's already in the food you eat. For example, have 1 tablespoon of peanut butter (on 1/2 an english muffin or whole wheat bread), and have 1 tablespoon of olive oil on your salad.

I know it sounds strange, but by not getting enough fat in your diet, it can keep you from losing weight.

Take a look at what you eat, keep a food journal. Good luck & hope this helps.
