Hi. I have a clear, fluid-filled spot on the white part of my eye. It is towards the inside of my eye. Does anyone know what this might be? I have severe dry eyes and allergies. I wonder if it has anything to do with that? Thanks for any help.

A clear fluid filled spot....how do you know it's fluid filled? Can you actually see fluid inside it?

Well, not sure that I can actually see fluid. It's hard to describe. It's as if I could run my finger over it and "pop" it......almost like a tiny bubble. Not sure if that helps any.

Not to make you any more worried or anything, but I might look up info about cataracts. It doesn't sound exactly like what you say you have though (since you say "clear" and "bubble-like"), but I'd point it out to my opthamologist. Cataracts are usually more like a white or pearly color that looks kind of like its covering up parts of your eye. I only know what I do about cataracts because my mom got them in both eyes last year (she had to get new retinas or something; I'm not sure if that's right. She got the first layer of her eyes replaced;maybe not the retina) That's my only idea though; sorry I can't help more.

Hi - I think what you have is something called a "pingueculum" or "pinguecula". They are very common in people with dry eyes or people who do lots of stuff outdoors (sun damage). I have a small one in my left eye. It just seemed to appear overnight. I was pretty scared when I first noticed it. But my ophthalmologist told me I had probably had it for years and just never really saw it before. Apparently they are harmless, unless they get really irritated or large. Just make sure you use preservative-free artificial tears to keep it moist. It will not go away on its own. They have to be surgically removed. But most ophthalmologist won't do the surgery because they usually just grow right back and sometimes the surgery can leave a really nasty scar. They're usually only removed if they are causing significant discomfort and if they're irritated all the time. Mine is pretty small and it doesn't really bother me anymore, so I've just grown kind of used to it. You should still have yours checked out by a doctor, though. There are other more serious things it could be. But I'm pretty sure what you have is a pingueculum. They are extremely common. There's tons of information on the internet. Okay, good luck!

 Hi all. Thanks for responding. I did however, end up going to an eye doctor this morning. She said it is a fluid build-up under that first layer of the eye or the conjunctiva. There was more to it than that, but I can't remember her exact words...... She said it is not serious though, which was my main concern. She had me blink and said that when I did that, there should have been some kind of moisture or wetness going over that bump but I had nothing. My eyes are very dry. She prescribed an antibiotic to use and said to use warm compresses for a least 5 minutes per time.
Also, Jen2003, I know what you are talking about as I have the "pinguecula" also!!! I developed those in both eyes about 3 years ago. I had went to the same eye Dr. and she said what you said. They are common in people with dry eyes and allergies. She actually brought that up again today. They are more yellowish and this "latest" bump I have is clear. I have a feeling I'm going to be dealing with a lot of this "unknown" 'stuff' being that my eyes are so severly dry. I hate it, but not sure what else to do except keep using my eye gel at night and moisture drops during the day. Thanks again for all input. Happy New Year. :)
