Hey! I was wondering what BCPs everyone is taking? I have takin Mircette & Yasmin. Currently Im on Alesse but have gained some weight.
My doctor said I shouldnt gain weight on alesse since it has such a low hormone level. Has anyone else gained weigt on Alesse?

Is there anything lower then Alesse? I think it is like 20 mcgm or something???

What is another very low hormone pill I can try that won't cause weight gain.

What BCP is everyone taking and do you like it?

THANKS!!!!

I'm also on Alesse. I started taking Alesse two months ago, and I've gained 6 lbs. from it. I suppose I just need to start eating better & exercising too! Everyone's system is different, some women gain weight from bc pills, some don't. I haven't noticed any sexual side effects from the bc pills though.

Alesse is 25 mcg. I took it and it worked fine until I missed 4 pills in one week and I had my period for about 2 months. So I switched to Yasmin, which is a little higher(30mcg) but I lost a ton of weight when I first went on it. And still..I can't keep any weight on.. all I do is lose weight. Why didn't you like Yasmin? I like it..some strange side effects but all in all its pretty good. It's part water pill, which counteracts the weight gain part.
There is a pill lower than Alesse, its called Seasonale, which is only 15 mcg. You take a pill pack for three months straight, and have your period only 4 times a year. I haven't heard very good reviews about it..but it's too new to be able to tell anything for anyone on it.
How long have you been on Alesse? Sometime you gain weight when first starting the pill but you almost always lose it within the first year! It takes the body a really long time to adjust to the pill. So be patient, and good luck!

I took Lo-Ovral over a year ago and I hated it... I gained weight and got really moody... so I switched to Yasmin and I stayed on Yasmin for over a year... I lost all the weight gain from the Lo-Ovral and didn't have any problems, except for cramps... I had lots of cramps... Nothing I couldn't deal w/, tho. Then, recently, I had to switch to Desogen b/c Yasmin was too expensive... So, now I'm taking Desogen and I HATE it. I have gained 7 pounds... I can't seem to get rid of the weight.. I am more moody than usual.. and I feel like I have a decreased sex drive.. Ugh. I am switching soon...!!!!!

I just switched to Microgestin 1/20. (It is the generic for Loestrin) Has anyone heard anything or taken this one?

I actually just started Microgestin 1/20 a few days ago. I was on the desogen and I hated it. It made me gain over ten pounds, which I can not lose no matter what. I got migranes and awful mood swings. My doctor told me that the Microgestin would alleviate all the side effects so I hope that's what happens. I do feel a bit lightheaded, but that might be because I still have the desogen in me. So far so goos, but have you had any side effects from the Microgestn?

Few months ago I got fed up when my period kept interfearing with my life and found out about the option of not having a period at all. I spoke to my OB/GYN and because I was also having severe PMS he agreed that taking a low dose birth control on a continuous basis (skipping the placebo tablets) would be a good idea as it would keep my hormon level constant.

I have been on Microgestin for 6 months. I haven't had a real period per see, but I have still been bleeding from time to time. Before I knew when I'm going to be out of commision; now, I can bleed any time, and it has happened are really the worse time possible (like during s.e.x). Also, I have gained 15lb and although I'm making efforts to lose this weight (eating clean, working out) I am having trouble losing the weight. Also, I have developed melasma (brown patches of hyperpigmentation) on my face ... I feel like I just can't win.

On the good side ... I have not experienced the sever mood swings associated with PMS since I started to take the pill. However, I'm considering going off of it.

I have gained some pounds since going on pill. More with higher estrogen ones than lower, predictably.

I stay the slimmest on Loestrin 1/24 but there are others with the same lower amounts of estrogen.

I am currently on Yasmin and I love it. My periods were very irregular before and I love knowing exactly when I will get them. I also do not get any cramps and barely any bloating.. sometimes just a mild stomach ache the first day, but before taking Yasmin I used to take sick to the point where I would throw up over and over. So Yasmin has helped SO MUCH with this.

I did not gain any weight on Yasmin either. I lost weight actually, but I was trying to lose weight anyway. So overall it didn't really affect my weight. I chose to go on a mono-phasic pill instead of the ones with several colors, because occasionally for vacation or what not I like to skip my period when it would be coming at a bad time. I also have never had a problem doing that with Yasmin. The worst thing it has ever done is after skipping a period it made my period come the next morning instead of the night before as usual, but hey, now they are shorter so it works for me! It also gives me a lighter flow.

I deal with some mood swings, but I had that before Yasmin and I do not believe it has affected it in any way. It's just something that runs in the family  .

Good luck finding the right pill! I got lucky trying the first one, but I know every pill works differently for other women and sometimes it takes many tries!
