Hi! My sister was 125 pounds before pregnancy and ate very healthy and was very athletic. Now it's been six weeks since she had her first baby and she weighs 143 pounds. For her it's alot. She started running again five weeks ago but hasn't lost any weight. She lost like twenty pounds in the first week after pregnancy, but since then nothing. She is breast feeding if that has anything to do with it. Also she ate healthy during pregnacy and is still eating healthy, but fewer calories. She is upset right know that the weight still isn't comming off. Why is this and what should she do? Thanks!

I heard that pilatis is really good especially for pregnancy weight, she could also try yoga. I hope this helps.

First of all Congrats to the new little one. I am a mommy of three and it's not always easy to get the wait off RIGHT AWAY. She is 6 weeks post partum....she has done a great job losing the weight so far. My first baby I started at 125 and came home at 145 and I nursed for a year and lost 2 pounds a month. I did not try to diet at all. Nursing helps burn off so much weight. My second baby I started at 125 and came home at 165 and lost all my weight in 8 months. That time I dieted. My third baby I started at 125 and came home at 180 and I am 5 months post partum and I weigh 165. You know that weight will come off if she continues to nurse and eat healty and exercise. Has she thought about doing weight watchers? I am doing it and I love it. I will be 125 by June 1. Its not an option with me....I hate the extra chub! I dont go to the meetings I just copied somebodies book for the points. Good luck!

First, congrats to her! :)

Second, breastfeeding is a great way to burn extra cals, and of course the BEST food for the baby. So hopefully she will continue to BF (some women say that BF'ing makes them "hold on" to weight, but I feel that is incorrect. So don't believe it).

She's only 6 weeks post-partum. I think she really needs to just be a little patient with herself. If she's less than 20 pounds from her pre-pg weight, that's really pretty good. She should aim for about 1-lb per week weight loss. She can count calories, but just not go too low, since she is nursing, and you need about 350 calories per day to make milk. So I would personally think like 1900 per day or something would help - I'm not a doctor, so this is just from personal experience.

I just talked to her today and she still hasn't lost any weight. She said she's eating 2000 cal daily and she is taking a multi-vitamin. Her diet is granola, tost with peanut butter and jam, fruits/veggies, two liters water and one liter milk. She runs at least three times per week and uses the machines at the gym. Her period hasn't come yet, so now she's thinking that may be the reason she hasn't lost even one pound in five weeks. Thanks for the advice. If she loses a pound I'll be sure to give you all the news LOL!!!

Trust me it will come off. Remember my first story about my first baby? I lost 2 pounds a month and it all fell off in a year. It will come off..especially if she was thin before! 145 in THIN too!
