Is it okay to drink alcohol if you are taking effexor. I'm taking 75mg of effexor xr and was wondering if it was okay to drink while taking this.

Damaged, Hi, I take effexor 75mg also and I do drink while I'm on it. I don't drink every day though. Just once in a while. It hasn't done any thing to me.

If you read the infomation pamphlet with the medicine it states that alcohol is a no-no so you shouldn't drink with any anti-depressent medicine and never ever with any anti-biotics as it makes them useless. It kills the medicine so you may as well not take it. :nono:

I once knew someone taking this anti-depressant, who also drank alcohol while on this medication, the key word being KNEW, they are no longer around, i hope this answers your question.

I was wondering this as well. I just began to take effexor, and have been reading the information about it on line (the official info anyways). All it said was it was unknown as to the effect of comibing alcohol and effexor. The pharmacy didn't put the "no alcohol while taking this medication" sticker on it either... so I don't drink often at all, but it sounds like it wouldn't hurt to have a drink every once in a while...

Hi...not a good idea to drink with it.....many do and are fine....if your luck runs like mine it would affect you. Also weight gain is a big factor with Effexor. I was gaining and not eating.....didn't understand why till I mentioned it to a friend....she told me....then it was bye bye to Effexor....Not for this female...^..^)))~~~ :bouncing:

I spoke with the pharmacy and they said it was ok to have a drink with the effexor... so, I am going to attempt it one of these days... :)
