For about a year now I have been suffering - on and off - with some form of rectal bleeding. It seems very minor, as it lasts a few days...and then clears up again.
I am just suffering from soreness for a little while, and slight bleeding.
I have no idea what caused this problem, but I was on a course of Prevacid a while back - although I didn't take the whole course, because I am a British immigrant with no health insurance. That may change soon, and I have kinda put off seeking medical advice on this because of the insurance issue.
Can anyone throw any light on the possible cause of this, and any kind of treatment available for it.
Thanks,
Steve

Steve,
Any time you have rectal bleeding you need to be checked medically. It may be hemorrhoids or a fissure. And it can be serious??
In the mean time --- I suggest you start taking a water soluble fiber supplement like Metamucil to make your BMs are gentle w/o straining. Make sure you drink enough water with each dose.

Even without medical advice, I am pretty sure it is not caused by either hemorrhoids or a fissure, Harry - so now I know I will have to get this looked at. I did have a breakdown in health some years ago, and I have suffered with stomach problems ever since. (It was liver-related...but I have had my liver checked out in both Britain and the USA - and both times nothing serious was detected.) I'm sure all of this is related in some way, though.
Every few months I get the taste of iron - or sometimes even rust - coming from my intestines to my tongue...and my wife says that I have bad breath. (I always tell her that the problem is coming from my stomach.) It has always been this way since my illness - although it has improved much since those days...I used to get many mouth ulcers, but they have improved a lot in recent years - I still get frequent dizziness, though.
I am 49 now...it seems that these stomach conditions occur a lot at that age.
Thank you for the feedback, Harry.
