View Full Version : vertical double vision, occasionally

I've been to my GP, been to an opthamologist and neither can find the cause of my occasional vertical double vision, which occurs in my left eye.

I am going to go back to the doctor and try to insist on more tests. What I'm wondering is if the opthamologist would have been able to see a brain tumor when he looked at my eyes? I didn't think to ask him at the time, but now I'm starting to have occasional problems with my speech, and memory. Sometimes I go to say something to someone, and completely different words than I intend to say come out of my mouth. My typing has deteriorated a lot in the last couple of weeks also.

It feels like there is something behind my left eye. I only wear glasses for reading. I have an annoying post nasal drip now, for the last few days, coming from the left side of my nose, and it tastes horrible. I don't mean to be gross, but I just have this weird feeling that something isn't right on the left side of my head.

Thanks to anyone's ideas.

Amed,

I think that it is VERY important that you follow up with your GP and insist on a consult with a neurologist or neuro-ophthalmologist if possible. I don't want to alarm you, but reading your symptoms made me think stroke not brain tumor. I'm not sure one is preferable to the other however.

Personally I believe sudden onset of double vision accompanied by loss of motor function (especially one sided) and/or slurred speech warrants a trip to the emergency room for an immediate work up. Please discuss this further with your GP to make certain that you get proper follow up.

I hope it turns out to be something common like an ear infection.
