I have naturally curly hair. When I get out of the shower, I don't brush it and let it air-dry and then hairspray it. It never looks really good, it's always kinda fuzzy and out of shape. Is there any good products or techniques that I could try that would make my curls look good?

I am mixed with West Indian and black which is called malato mixed. I have naturally curly hair and i know how hard it can be to manage. I use African Gold hair grease which helps with the frizz and dry ends. You should try some black hair products because they know alot about curly hair. Also try not to use shampoo often because it makes your hair frizzy just pay a conditioner that is good at cleaning hair and well as nurishing.

I also have naturally curly hair. Not to brag or anything, but I get compliments on it everyday...do this in the morning when u get out of the shower. I promise you will love it.
While your hair is still wet....
Before you comb your hair, put some infusium leave in treatment in your hair. Then brush it through with a wide toothed comb.
Put some mouse in your hair while it is still wet (I use Frizz ease mouse, it is the best thing ever made!!!). Make sure all of your hair has mouse in it.
Now, scrunch your hair using a thin towel (this will take out most of the water in your hair.) Let it dry and then you can spray a little hairspray on it if you like to hold the curls in place.
It may take a few times of practice before you get it exactly right, but once you get it, you will love it!!!

I agree - Infusium is the way to go. I had a hideous perm about 10 years ago and its the only thing that kept me from shaving it all off. You won't believe the difference!

INFUSIUM23 leave in treatment. This stuff works miracles. If you can, also buy the shampoo and conditioner. Use the treatment everytime you wash and condition your hair. Do this for 2 weeks. I promise you will be amazed!!! (Keep in mind that you won't like the way your hair feels at first because you really want to saturate your hair with the leave in treatment, and this might make your hair a little stiff. After week though, you can use just enough to coat your hair.)

I have blond, naturally curly hair and have a similar routine as PrincessShana. Something I have to do, which i think is common for curly-heads, is get my hair wet every morning. I take a shower every morning, but wash only every other day. When I get out I towel-dry, then use a pick to get the tangles out. I apply Finesse mouse everywhere (leave no hair untouched!) and then if I need an little extra control I use hairspray. I've been using Finesse mouse for about 10 years - I swear by it! But really, it's mainly the hairspray that keeps the frizz away. Then I just let it air dry. Good luck!

Snwflkcty:
You might want to try getting your hair relaxed using a hair relaxer perm. Try consulting with your hairdressing regarding your dilema.

Hi, I'm of Puerto Rican/Colombian descent and have very curly hair. I have used many products in search of one that makes my hair look natural, not stiff, but still curly and frizz free.
Now I think that is a lot to ask of curly hair but I have found some products that work really well and make it really easy to take care of once untameable hair. I have used infusium, mousse, gels, frizz ease and many other products. I even had my hair cut and style by the famous curly hair guru "Ouidad" in my search for perfect curly hair (she did a great job but the cut and hair products were a bit expensive after a while).
Well to make a long story short, I found Aveda's "be curly" which is a curl enhancing lotion (emphasis on the lotion). This product pairs holding ingredients with moisturizing ones. This way your hair does not dry out and get frizzy and also holds your curls in perfect form. I really recommend this product. I also use Paul Mitchell's "The Cream" which is a leave in conditioner. Just a bit in your hair right after you wash it makes a big difference.
I can say that using just these 2 products makes a world of a difference! Although I always used to get compliments on how my curls looked, when people would touch it they make a face at how stiff they were or how greasy they felt depending on the product I used, but with these products you can touch my curls and they feel soft and natural. Even though these products are a bit pricey, they are worth it. Especially if you think about how money you save not having to buy mousse, gel, hairspray, etc.
If anyone tries these products, let me know how it goes!

I have VERY curly hair. I had an afro (even though I'm white) until I grew my hair out long. It pulls out a lot of the curl. What works for me is making sure my hair is very well-conditioned. I put conditioner on the ends of my hair before I wash it; then, I wash it with a 2 in 1 shampoo. Then, I use conditioner again. After I wash that out, I use 2 leave in conditioners. Sometimes I even put oil on the ends of my hair. I even use conditioner for African Americans when it gets really dry. I get compliments almost daily. I realize that my hair is abnormally dry, but making sure that it's well-conditoned has worked wonders for my curly-haired friends too.

All those who don't want their hair to curl .... just iron it with ceramic hair tongs/irons. The result is amazing! Buy good quality ones and you won't regret it :) .... PS ... use a little de-frizz cream afterwards.

snwflkcty - I too have naturally curly/unruly hair. I've tried EVERYTHING out there and most of it works for a bit and then it's back to the frizz-fuzz ACK! :o
Anyway, I found this AWESOME product - it costs more than your regular drug-store brands, but it has worked wonders for my hair. It's called "Ouidad"
What I do is buy the shampoo, conditioner and two of the hair styling thingies, I also keep a drugstore shampoo and conditioner around; once a week I'll use the drugstore stuff, just to shake and wake my hair up - that way you don't get the "bad" period from using the same stuff all the time (even the best stuff will bore your hair! ).
My favorite drugstore brands are "finnesse" (moisturizing) and Pantene Pro-V (moisturizing). I also like to have a bottle of "Biolage" leave in conditioner spray for those extra dry/fuzzy days.
I hope this helps, I know I sound like one of those advertisements but I really really love the Ouidad products. Try 'em and let me know how it goes!!
good luck!
a commiserating curly gal.

I also have really curly hair and i have spent years trying to find products to make it look nice and i think that i finally have found something that works well. What i do is after i get out of the shower i spray in a leave in conditioner and then brush out my hair. Then i put in a product by icon which you can buy in a beauty supply store called structuralizing cream and scrunch it through my hair and then let it air dry. It works really well. I have gotten many compliments on it since i started using it. Just don't use too much or it will become crunchy.

I have wavy/curly hair and it used to get frizzy all the time. Not combing your hair if its curly and JUST using hair spray is one of the worst things you can do to your hair. It will dry out b/c of the alcohol in the hairspray and will be tangled due to the lack of combing.
I also have tried many things and have finally found the perfect ritual for my hair. Its very similar to what other curly haired girls do to their hair. First of all, dont wash your hair everyday, wash it everyother day or every two days, depending on what you do to it. Use deep conditioning products; I switch up between Neutrogena's deep conditioning shampoo and conditioner, Dove for dry hair, and Renewel 5x, all of which are great. After washing my hair I put Paul Mitchells leave in conditioning creme (generously) and SLOWLY comb my hair, starting at the bottom. Once all the knots are removed I use a gel specifically for curly hair (II try different ones). I gently scrunch it into my hair, all over. Then afterwards I use a little bit of an Loreal Studio FX liquid gel, whcih is an alcohol free spray gel, just to lock in the curls. You can let hair dry, but for better results blow dry with a diffuser. Your hair may feel a lil hard at first, but after an hour it will be soft, and frizz free.
*Two key things- Try to use alcohol free products and CONDITION. Conditioning is VERY important. Hope I helped :)
