FOR SOME TIME NOW, MY FATHER-IN LAW HAS HAD TROUBLE WITH HIS MEMORY. LATELY,HOWEVER, HE HAS BEEN SEEING AND HEARING THINGS THAT ARE NOT THERE. IS THIS PART OF THE SYNDRONE OR SHOULD WE LOOK ELSEWHERE FOR ANSWERS.

My mother has Alzheimers and she sees things that aren't there. She is in a retirement home and I've also seen it with the other patients so I have come to the conclusion that it's all part of the disease.

Yes, there are hallucinations associated with Alzheimers, especially after sundown. It is called Sundowner's Syndrome. My mother had it when she moved to a new assisted living home. She would walk up and down the halls at night. It really got bad when she began attacking the residents. One of them she accused of watching her husband's TV and hit him. My mother is the most timid person I have ever seen but when she developed signs of sundowner's it really scared me. They solved the problem by moving her to an alzheimer's unit in the home. It is smaller and cozier. She settled down. Now she goes to bed immediately after dinner and does not seem to have the problems.
