Sponsor Carreen 01-18-2002, 02:20 PM If you're asking if these are symptoms of alzheimers, in a general sense, no. When you're under a great deal of stress, it is normal to forget things because you're using up your brain, thinking, either consciously or unconsciously of the stressors. Mild forgetfulness is normal with advancing age, but healthy older people are usually good at remembering what's most important to them. There is reason for concern if you start forgetting what you were just doing, get lost in your own neighborhood, or start displaying uncharacteristic or inappropriate behavior. If you are always misplacing your keys, it may mean nothing. If you start leaving them in the fridge or the sugar bowl, it may be cause for concern. One of the most recognizable symptoms of Alzheimer's disease is a speech problem - a person chooses the wrong words, or can't understand simple sentences. Problems with numbers are also common. These are the most reliable signs of early-stage Alzheimer's disease. Franklin K. Casel 02-20-2002, 07:27 AM Dear Kim: Your concern about the memory problem is indeed valid. However, if with some conteplation and a little time you are able to recall what you thought you had forgotten then you need not worry. It is the normal fortgetfulness of age and not Alzheimer's Regardless I would, if I were you, I would have a thorough checkup by a competent neurologist as early diagnosis is very important if any pathology exists. Keep faith and God bless. Franklin ------------------ franklin K. Cassel johnemcg 02-23-2002, 09:43 PM check to see if you're taking any statin drugs! (lipitor). Statin drugs will cause memory loss problems and most Dr's don't know about this. They give statin drugs to older people, when that person starts forgetting things they think it's just age doing it.
