My son is mostly potty trained except for at night. I have 4 kids and 3 of them are small so I have to do alot of laundry in the first place. I am going nuts having to wash sheets like this on top of everything else. He is potty trained throughout the day so putting a diaper on him at night only caused a huge uproar about how he wasnt a baby. He switches beds in the night so I sometimes have to wash 2 sets of sheets. I have tried Pull Ups, Pampers Easy Ups, and plastic pants on top of them. They still leak out the front. The high dollar pants are just not working.
I limit his drinking in the evening and make him potty before bed. It still happens  Any ideas on what I can do with him to help ease this problem? Anyone have a brief that works for them? TIA

My kids wore diapers to bed until they were 4. They were all potty trained during the day by the time they were 2. Buying diapers was alot easier than going through the headache of potty training a child who isn't quite ready, in my opinion. This worked well for my older children and my daughter who will be 4 next month has dry diapers most nights so I will feel safe taking her out of them. BTW, my kids also took their bottles to bed until 4 (a little indulgent but oh well). He will learn eventually. Keep in mind some kids have bladder/urinary tract issues that may prevent them from totally going accident free at night. I personally experienced this until I was 8. If it is something he cannot control, be sure to give love and support rather than admonishment. Best wishes - remember these stages don't last forever!

My younger son is 5 and still has night time enuresis. I had to buy GoodNights , made for older children, to keep the urine from leaking out. I have four children and I am a nurse. From what I understand, it is normal for some boys to take longer before they are night time trained. : )

Thank you both. I dont get upset by it as I know boys can be later and my sister went through what you are describe. She was a night time wetter until she was 7. Do the Goodnights really help with the leaking? He is my first boy so I dont know if I should point it down when he gets into the pants or just leave it alone.
Another lady told me that urine is sterile and that I should not feel the need to wash the sheets every time. I should wash them as usual and spray Febreeze in between. Is there any truth to this? I would think that Febreeze wouldnt cover the urine smell.
Anyway, thanks again for your help. I hope to get it figured out soon ;)

Fresh, urine is sterile. After it has been exposed to air, then micro-organisms and bacteria grow. What I do for the smell is clean with white vinegar and spray with febreeze. GoodNights have really worked for me. My five year old's urine would leak out of a pullup. The GoodNights were able to "Hold" his amount of urine. He also has a larger bladder size apaprently. Good luck! : )

I also have a 3yr old boy - who still wets at night. What I use is the Luvs brand of pull-ups for night (not exact on the name) but they are big and bulky! and I have good luck with no leaks with them, others my son also leaks threw!!!
I was just at a check-up with the doctor for my son, and being he has been day trained since just before 2 I asked her also - when is this gonna come??? She first said - "was there anyone in the immediately family that was a bed wetter" she said immediately like mother/father brother/sister. Anyway his ped. told me it can be hereditary, that it has something to do with the maturity of the bladder muscles?? (at this age she said don't worry about it) but...even though he is able to control during the day - some muscle isn't able to at night?? But in time he will soon be able to control it.
I understand about the laundry bit - I have 2 other children and even though my son hates diapers he usually will wear a pull-up (I have given him the choice) but it is way better than all the extra laundry.

I hate to tell you this, but I have an 11 year old boy who still wets at night. I'm sure what badkat said about it being hereditary is correct, being that his dad did this until he was 10, his uncle till he was 16(!) and his grandfather till he was 8. Poor kid doesn't have a chance. I use Goodnights as well and have been fairly happy with them. At 11 you can imagine the amount of urine he can create and if I don't control it in the evenings, they leak. The laundry, as well as the alarms, plastic sheets, the pills, the pull ups, etc, I'm going broke, but I've stopped talking about it and worrying about it...everyone, including his Pediatrician tell me that he will grow out of it...please keep your fingers crossed.
