Hi,

After 18 months of no running this is now driving my nuts. I was diagnozed with Chronic Stress Fracture to the tibia about 6 months ago. Now I'm wearing a bone stimulator to heal this. But I still have sensation from it, 3 months later. (The time my doctor estimated for it to heal) I am curious if anyone has had the same dilema or heard of it before. Why is it not healing? I take extra calcium almost daily and try to not stress the weight bearing on the legs, at least lower the impact I put on them. (I walk as normal of course!) Has anyone heard about breaking the bone to let it heal back up? I'm searching for answers to my problem, but it seems that doctors are at loss for explanations and treatments at this point. Any suggestions?

I am dying to get back to running and hiking!! Greatful for input!

I don't really have an answer for you but I have the same problem. I was diagnosed with a stress fracture of the tibia almost 2 years ago. I spent about 6 months in a cast up to my hip. and then went through a series of smaller casts. In the end my old doctor said it was healed. A few months ago, I started getting the same aching pain in my shin, so I got more xrays and now my new doctor is telling me there is still a small stress fracture there. I am supposed to get a bone stimulator, but it will cost me $2800 dollars for the co-pay. I have drastically changed my diet, quit smoking, had acupuncture, and tried every other thing to help heal this. Do you think the bone stimulator would be worth the money for me? Have you had any improvement? I hear a lot of good things about them for the tibia, but it's a lot of cash. I hope you heal soon and get back to what you love to do.
