My 8 and a half year is showing signs of puberty-body odor (which strated last year), and a few pubic hairs. The doctor ran blood tests on him, and so far, everything seems normal. I'd just like to know if there is anyone out there who has experienced the beginning of puberty this early in a boy?

Was he on formula when he was baby? I am not too sure where I read it or even if it is true, but I think soy based formula are very high in ..... well, I am not too sure now that I am trying to remember, but that might have something to do with what is going on. Or maybe he is just an early developer. If the Doctor is not too concerned about it I think everything is OK. I do hope you are able to find out what (if anything) is going on.
Good luck!

My daughter just turned 10 in November and she's had pubic hair and body odor since she was 9....and she started her period just after she turned 10! She's already wearing a 34C bra as well. So while I can't offer a reason for you, I do sympathize with having a very young child going through some harsh changes. Dr. says some kids just develop early.
On the soy formula note: she was on soy until she was 11 months old as was my son. I have never heard that theory but it is interesting...

My 10 yr old daughter started developing breasts at 7 yrs old. She turned 10 in June and has also started her period. She has what the drs think is NF1. She has what I always thought were just birthmarks, the cafe au lait spots. Turns out that is what is behind a lot of her problems. We go to the genetics dr in 2 weeks for confirmation of her diagnosis. She was breastfed for the 1st 12 months of her life so I'm not sure of her ealy puberty. It's funny though that when I took her to Ped Dr at 7 the dr didn't seem to think that was early. Now she has bigger breasts than I do !
My son actually was a late bloomer but is now 6'2. And I had to switch him to formula, not soy, at the age of 6 months as he needed more than breast milk. Huge appetite.
