I am going to the doctors at 7am to get a holter monitor put on because i have high blood pressure 150/103 and am only 23 years old 6'3 tall and 228 pounds. The doc says i need to loss a few pounds and will. And i have been having major chest pains.

Got a ekg done and he said it was normal.

What is a holter monitor.. and what does it test?

First of all, take a shower right before you go because you can't bathe while you are wearing the holter monitor. Second wear a baggier loose fitting shirt, something that buttons up the front as that will be easier to hide the wires and belt or straps of the monitor and then your shirt won't be tight and uncomfortable. First the nurse put on several little stickey pads around my chest. 4 or 6 of them, I don't remember. The pads have a little snap like thing on them. They snap onto wires that are attached to the holter monitor. The monitor is the size of a portable cassette player and is (or mine was anyway) belted around your waist with an elastic belt. I was also given a "diary" to write down when I felt certain pains or palpitations which I was feeling and then push the "test" button to put a mark on the tape that is recording your heartbeats. I was also told to push the test button on the monitor three times a day and write "test" in the diary book when I wasn't having palpitations also. Not sure why they had me do that but I did it. I wore mine for 48 hours and when the 48 hours were up I was told to just unsnap the wires from the pads on your chest and put it all in a bag and drop it off at the doctors office. The little pads that were stuck to my chest were kinda like a very strong bandaid and didn't come off very easy. I used baby oil on them to kinda loosen them up. It took 10 to 14 days to get the results back because my doctors office had to mail the tape somewhere but ask them if they don't tell you when the results will be in because your doctor might do it different. Otherwise it was a very easy thing to wear. It was in a little padded bag so when I went to bed it didn't hurt, the nurse said I could also unhook it from the belt and put it under my pillow but I didn't want it to drop on the floor so I didn't do that. Good luck.
