I am a 62 year old juvinal diabetic that has undergone stomach cancer surgery seven years ago. I haqve a hard time gaining weight because I can't eat alot at one time. I was put on dialysis ayear and a half ago and decided three months ago I could not stand it any longer. I was very ill after each treatment. They secreased me from three time a week to twice a week and I still became very ill and sick after the treatments. I have felt wonderful since I have no longer been doing dialysis. I really believe the doctors were wrong. Because of continued use of lasix and other fluid pills over the years, it can cause a false reading on the blood work. Wouldn't I be sixk or feeling bad if I needed dialysis? I don't even have any swelling unless I EAT SOMETHING WITH TO MUCH SALT.. I do get frightened because the doctors are all mad at me because of my decission butr I think it is a shame I can not be in control of my own body. I think I would rather die than go back on dialysis if they said I had to, but I just can not see why I have to if I feel ok. Can someone help me? Thsank you so much.

You know what? I respect your decision. I have never been on dialysis, but I know that it is not always the most pleasant experience. You're right, continued use of lasix and other diuretics can cause weird blood electrolyte readings, but that's why you're looked after by a nephrologist--they're trained to recognize these anomalies. Now, you wouldn't be on dialysis for no reason, so I"m not going to lie to you, your health will slowly deteriorate as the waste products start building up in your body. If you start getting confused, really itchy, really bloated, get chest pain etc. etc. the only answer for you will probably be dialysis.
How long have you been off it for now? Do you produce ANY urine at all?

Thank you for your reply. My problem is the itchy skin. This has just started and I thought it was dry skin frim the wenter but I am concerned now. I am very frail so I am tired all the time anyway. It is hard to distinguish what is really kidney and not. I know when I go to the doctor they will put me back on dialysis justbecause they want to prove I was wrong.
