I'm not sure where to post this but for the past 3-4 months I continuosly wake up during the night with shoulder/arm pain. Mostly on my left side. I do have several disc problems in my neck. My chiropractor tells me its pressing on a nerve. You worry if they are missing something. But the pain wakes me up so I have to switch to the right side but I am not as comfortable so I go back to the left side and this happens all night. During the day the pain is not there. It's only at night when pressing on it. Anyone else have this problem. My discs are not herniated only bulging.
thanks,

Go get an MRI, not an X-RAY !! I had the same problem with my left shoulder. It turned out I had 6 tears in my shoulder. I waited too long an really skrewed it up. 5 surgeries later, including an anterior, and posterior, reconstruction, the pain in shoulder is so bad, I see a PM Doc. Good Luck !!

It sounds like you need a special orthotic pillow. There is one type that has a divot where your head is to rest. Ask around for recommendations. There are different types out there.

If you have been seeing a chiropractor, perhaps you should make an appt and see an ortho or a neuro. It sounds like it is time for an MRI to be done and have that shoulder evaluated. It is no fun to have your sleep interrupted all night like that. If you wait, you could do damage that would be much harder to fix. Good luck.

Thanks for the feedback. I will be making an appt with my primary doctor today and go from there. This has been going on to long. Sometimes we just need a push from others.
Thanks :)

Good luck with your appointment!
The pillow idea is a great one- I used to use one that had a half circle shape cut out of one side for my shoulder, and a cradle area for my head. It worked great, but when it wore out and I couldn't find a replacement, my physical therapist suggested a medium density down pillow, which I continue to use with good results. I also have a fancy mattress pad with the temperature sensitive foam (looks like an egg crate, but with the special foam), which is very helpful.
Best of luck to you!
housewench,
thanks for the info. I will check into the pillow. Already have one for my neck and works great. So will definitely check into this.
thanks again.
