I need to have the donor lab testing done and found that my insurance won't cover this because it isn't medically necessary. DOes anyone know how expensive this is?

Fatnana.....I do know the labs for my husband were in the 400 dollar range. He was the recipient and it was conered by our insurance. But the testing is basically the same...blood type, cross match, tissue type, CBC, etc.
He had to have these labs drawn every month while on the waiting list. Hope this gives you an idea. Good luck to you and your son.

In reply to your post......I donated to my sister in May of 2002 her insurance and medicare paid for all my testing and operation....except for $38.00. Just thought you might want to check with medicare to see if they will cover this. :)

Actually, my son had his transplant on May 11 and medicare paid for all of my expenses...I have not even seen a bill.
