I've been on the Erythromycin now for 4 days. (500mg x 4 times a day). So, I'm wondering when this is supposed to start working. Hate to think I'm enduring this icky stomach stuff for nothing.

Hmmm. Four days is plenty long enough, you should have started feeling better by now. Can I ask what you're taking it for? Your doctor may have to give you a different one if whatever you have isn't getting any better. I think the longest I have ever gone before it started working for me was three days, and by then I was feeling ALOT better. You may want to give your doctor a call.

Can I ask what you're taking it for? Your doctor may have to give you a different one...You may want to give your doctor a call.

1) Lung infection (showed on x-ray, also high white cell count, productive cough, fever, chills, night sweats, fatigue, loss of appetite).

2) Been six days now...doctor INSISTS that Erythromycin is the correct antibiotic for this type of infection.

You really need to see another doctor too get another opinion. I'm serious. I do not want to alarm you and I can't possibly diagnose you. However I can tell you that the night sweats, fever, fatigue, loss of appetite indicate that it could be more then just treating it with an antibiotic. It could be more severe then what he or she is thinking. Never stop with just one opinion with something like this. I read your information again and the white blood count being down is another reason along with your not feeling any better after 4 days of the antibiotic. Have your doctor take your blood count again and if you are anemic then they really need to take corrective action - NOW. Please respond and let me know if you have done this and what the outcome has been.

3) Too tired and dizzy to drive to the doctor.
If i were you i would search for a second opion...If your antibotic isnt working you need another one.Dont wait until its too late.
I know from experience. I tried to tell the Dr I was seeing at the time that Biaxin wasnt helping my pneumonia and I was on it for 2 weeks he said just keep taking it. Well I got worse and decided to go to a walk in clinic,
Well my pneumonia formed a cavity in my lung along with alot of fluid so I was referred to a pulmonary specialist it took levaquin to kill the bacteria. So now here I sit with a huge scar in my left lung b/c the Dr would not listen to me.

Got a second opinion. Too late. Metastisizing (sp??) Melanoma. Dang I should at least learn to spell the thing that is doing me in.

I'm sorry to hear about your melanoma diagnosis. At least now you know and the appropriate treatment can be given; surgery? radiation? chemo?

How was the diagnosis made? Bronchoscopy? VATs? PET scan? MRI?
