Hey everyone,

I know there is a lot of information on Tonsillectomys, but having a few other angles are a good thing. I thought it would be helpful, especially since I am 40 years old. I know my ENT used on a new procedure that is less painful and when I scab over it is suppose to be wet not dry, so there should be less pain, but I'll just wait and see.

I have no complaints thus far, my pain thus far is a low grade sore throat, but I still stay on top of my pain meds. The doc gave me lortab pills because the liquid almost made me vomit. Still works well on the pain. She also gave me 4 Steroid Pills for the swelling of my Uvula and of course the antibotics.

I am just trying to stay hydrated with water, I am only drinking water and I am eating ice chips along with Popsicles and Chicken Noodle Soup minus the chicken, can't eat the Chicken just yet.

Just taking it easy and relaxing watching TV. I have not had any sleeping problems so far, although I only sleep for a couple of hours at a time, feels great to get all this rest and catchup on my soaps.

Whatever pain I have it is much better than digging out those nasty Tonsil Stones I had. Maybe now my breath can smell a whole lot better instead of smelling like a rotten egg all the time.

Hey sounds like your doing pretty well with your tonsillectomy thus far. You mentioned something about a new procedure do you know what it's called?? I know to cut mine out they used an electric caulterizing knife. Well I hope things continue to go well for you.

Hi Missladyt1, good to see you are doing well. I think I had my operation two days ahead of you, I'm okay myself. I actually slept the whole night without the vicodin, just took the t3 every 4 hours. I've been taking two vicodin every 4 hours for the last 4 days, and now I'm scared I'm going to get hooked on the stuff. So I'm trying to take more t3 and less vicodin now. The pain isn't so bad, mainly when I swallow. I had some mac and cheese last night, was a little hard going down but worth it.
I have a question for you, have you been able to look in the back of your throat yet? I've been checking and it doesn't look very good in mine. I know it should be scabs and the white stuff, but it doesn't seem even. It looks like there's more cut away on one side of my uvula, and even where the tonsils used to be it now looks like big holes. The main reason I had this done was because of my cryptic tonsils and all the tonsil stones, so I'm concerned now that there may be an even bigger hole for them to collect? But it just looks pretty bad, like a bunch of random cuts around the uvula on either side. I have a follow up on Tuesday, we'll see what he says.

I am glad the pain has eased up a bit. Yes, I have looked in the back of my throat and my Uvula is huge, but getting smaller. I have a little of the white stuff on the sides of my Uvula, but not much. The hole does seem rather large and yes more on my right then my left. I know that my Tonsils were rather large and that could be in your case also. I think the docs wanted to make sure they got it all. It will eventually heel up just fine and the big holes will no longer exist, just give it a little time. It is not going to heal up in just 2 weeks. Please let me know what your ENT says about it.

AlleyCat,

My ENT used the Harmonic Scalpel and not many ENT Docs are using this method. It enables the docs to have more of a precise smooth cut and at the same time reduces the bleeding. The patient should have less pain when they recover and also when the scab appears it will be wet and moist, so there is less pain. I really don't need my pain pills and over the counter Tylenol is just fine, but I take one pain pill a day when I get up. My mouth has been moist and has not dried out yet. The post-op is still the same as far as the soft foods and such.

Oh really I actually did some research on the Harmonic Scalpel. So far it sounds like your pain hasn't been to bad. Last month when I had my tonsils removed I took my pain pills 2 every 4 hrs. I never take any meds except a little tylenol so I just laughed me Ent off when he said 75 percocet might not be enough. Not only was it not enough I ran out of them in 1 week and he had to give me vicodin. He used an electric caulterizing knife (not a lazer he said they work better than a lazer) on me. My recovery was quite difficult. Days 1-5 I thought I would make it even thought the pain was bad I was drinking 5 bottles of watera day and keeping up with my pain meds my ENT had said most people have their worst day on day 4&5 so I thought the worst was behind me but on days 6-8 I couldn't even get out of bed it hurt so bad. However I have been informed that my tonsils were very swollen and had infection in them when they were taken out and that contributed to the pain (There was a bubble on my left tonsil) because of the way he had to cut. Are you still able to eat. If so thats great I was unable to eat and it messed me up bad when I started eating again. It has now been almost a month since my tonsillectomy and their is still a slight pain to swallow and I can't yawn that hurts and I still have to leave spicy foods and juices alone because it burns going down but I am almost 100%. I feel so much better to finally feel so good. And now I can breath out my nose to!!!(they did a turibnate reduction)

I am not able to eat anything but soft foods. Spicy foods would just kill me I know. I am just sticking with the soups. I may scramble me some eggs tomorrow morning or something like that. I have only been taking one pain pill a day and that's it and I sleep pretty much during the night. My husband says that I do not snore anymore because it was god awful. I am happy about that. I am just happy to be rid of the Tonsil Stones they were awful. I am glad I decided to have them removed even at my age.
