I thought I'd drop a line, have chronic pain probs but have too many health probs to figure out the why of the pain.
I have narcolepsy and was prescribed doxepin at night to help me sleep better. It didn't help for that but it completely got rid of the tension migraines I had more than half the days of the month and also helped with some of my aches and pains. I called my pharmacist to ask if this was common and he said that they are not sure why it works but it seems to work for many types of pain icluding fibromyalgia. I know that if I miss a few days, the migraines are back and the pains are way worse.
I also started looking around and found that most others who have been on it noticed the same thing. Anyone else on it or know of someone who's pain has been helped by it???

Angel, I don't have alot of time right now to get in depth on this but I just wanted you to know that I have managed to get some relief from central pain syndrome by using Doxipin cream.It was Rxed by the Neurophysiologist at the physical rehab hosp that I was transferred to after having to have major surgery done on the inside of my spinal cord.I don't know if you know or have ever even heard of central pain syndrome but it is the absolute worst type of neuropathic,ripping ,burning,feeling like someone is literally ripping your skin off of your body pain that you can possibly imagine.It dosen't even respond to any of the major narcotics, but the only thing that I have found that even touches this pain is when i use the Doxipin cream.Don't know why.Don't care,as long as it gives me some relief.Thought you might like to know. Angel;
I am also a CP patient with a variety of ailments.... I haven't been here in a while, life is demanding...however, I have been on Doxepin for approximately 6 years.... A dr. in NYC, perscribed it w/ oxycontin I got round about answers but in a nutshell and easiest one to explain is that your body has endorphins (please excuse the spelling) I also have depression (wonder why) and from what I gather my "mind" works differently and the doxepin helps my mind tell my endorphins to "get going".... That was the best example I could relate w/.
Keep your chin up.....

I have heard of doxipin being used to help with cluster headaches with good results so far to block the pain.

Like I said, I haven't been told yet anything other than, dunno, just works. I'm glad to hear the explanation above because it does make sense. I also had one lady tell me that she didn't get relief from a morphine drip, but used doxepin cream and got relief. It didn't take it all away, but it was the first relief she got.
