My 2 year old daughter broke her arm just above the elbow on boxing day. since then she has had a plaster on and was reviewed last wed at the fracture clinic where i was told she would need the pins the following day. so we were all set for theatre when the surgeon asked to speak with me. he had been told it was only a week since the break(it was 13 days)and it was too late to operate as her bones would have healed but in the wrong position. Now my daughter could be faced with a disability in her arm because of lack of mobility.
Has anyone else had a similar experience and what was the outcome?

i broke my arm just above elbow when i was 6 and had it operated to pull it back into position (no pins) the same evening. I would get a second opinion, because they can rebreak bones n reset them if needed, and you don't want your child to have unecessary pain n disability that could be fixed.

I would get a second opinion. An associate of mine's daughter broke her arm when she was two, and the hospital she attended actually waited until it was healed and then re-x-rayed it to see if it needed surgery. Fortunately it did not, but had she, then they would have had to re-break the arm and she faced another 4 weeks in plaster.

Good luck.
