Hi Everyone:

Im 31yrs old, Male. Heavy smoker.

Whenever I drink Alcohol my kidneys hurt.

I had gone to the doctors for blood test/urine test when this happened years ago when I was a teen, and he said everything looked fine.

I havent touched alcohol in years, cause I dont like it,
But last night I had 3 tall glasses on wine, and today my kidneys hurt alot, the pain is subsiding now.

I was just wondering, why would my kidneys hurt from it?
I was never a big drinker, never a casual drinker either, never abused it.

Can this be an alergic reaction of some type?
Both kidneys where hurting bad today but like I said pain is going away.

I do drink alot of water during the day.
And if I dont drink alchol my kidneys dont bother me.

Anyone have similar symptoms?
I dont want to go to the doctor again just to tell me everything looks fine again.

Thanks Everyone-

I probably am a bit more of a recreational drinker than you and since college I would sometime experience back flank pain after a heavy night of drinking. It usually would go away by the end of the day. A few months ago I started having regular aches in my Kidneys so I went to the Uro. My pee test was clear but he has ordered an Ultrasound which I am having tomorrow. I've tried to research to see what it could be and there are just too many possibilites so I guess I will wait to see what the Ultrasound shows and hope for the best!
BTW, I am a 34 year old male non-smoker with no family history of Kidney problems. This crap really pizzes me off!
Good luck.

Please let me know your results. Good Luck with the test.
I remember the DR, saying its a kind of allergic reaction, but
couldnt confirm it.

I felt alot of pain.. felt like the kidneys were gonna shutdown.

Im still confused myself.. and now scared to drink again. =(

No family history of kidney disorders either.

Results are in (sort of)...

Went for my ultrasound today. The technician told me that my Kidneys were "Unremarkable"...I was going to take that as an insult :) but apparently that means there was nothing of note and that my Kidneys appear normal. I have not spoken with the Doc yet to see what the next step is but at least I feel a little better knowing that I don't have any tumors, size differences or signs of hydrophrenosis (sp?).
I'll keep you updated. If your insurance covers it, you should get into the doc and get the Ultrasound done at least. Its quick, painless and will help ease your mind a little.
I think I'll have a beer! :D
Cheers
