Surgery was friday morning, urethoscopic. Was a total success, they gave me a picture of stone. Was able to urinate bloody urine as soon as I woke up.
__________
Could not urinate the rest of the day at home, tried sitting in warm bath, no luck.
___
Ended up 10 pm friday night in emergency ward having a catherer installed. Barely able to walk with it in, it hurts. Cant drive.
___
Tomorrow morning urlogist will remove it and see if I am ok. If not, its back to the emegency room tomorrow night for a new catheter.
___
This could coninue forever, worst case is full function will never come back.
___
They conviently fail to mention this complication to you before surgery.
__
My life could be ruined forever.

Keep us posted. that's very odd and very unusual, i've never heard of anything like that, especially since you were able to urinate right after the surgery.

that's bizarre

sorry to hear that, you have my condolences

I may be the 1 in a million who's life is destroyed by this procedure. Why me? I knew I should have never done it, i prayed, my family prayed, now look what has happened to me.

wow...i really don't know what to say, except, i'm really sorry to hear about this. i know how scaried, like me, you were of the surgery and you're right, i never once heard of this being a complication. my urologist never even went over complications with me, simply saying everything would be fine.

does your kidney hurt or is it just you can't urinate or both? i know, the day after the surgery for me, my kidney hurt sooooo bad, i thought it was going to rip out of my skin and all i could do was a combination of hot baths (2 in 30 minutes) and vicodin for the pain. after 2 attacks of the kidney, one around 6pm and the other around midnight, i was finally able to sleep around 1am. but now, my kidney doesn't hurt anymore.

it's funny with me, my left side is now sore...maybe because i'm not using it as much. i used to sleep in my sides, but thursday night and friday night i slept on my stomach to just not distrub the kidneys and so, that did help, but now my left side feels funny, but i am almost sure it's just a muscle issue.

did your doctor say anything to you about why this could have happened? i truly feel for you and please, let us know anything else you find out. i will keep you in my thoughts.

Kidney hurt the first day only. no more kidney pain. Just could not urinate, so they had to put in catheter. I was told on the phone in emergency that it could be swelling from the procedure or a small blood clot. I was told that after the catheter comes out on monday, it should be fine. Any swelling or blood clot would have passed by then.
___
I am very nervous and praying that tomorrow when the catherer comes out I will be ok again. if not I dont know what I am going to do.

farscape I'm so sorry this has happend to you. I do remember responding to one of your posts awhile back and was wondering about you. You mentioned something about the possiblitly of not getting full function back. I have heard of others recovering from bladder surgery (I know yours was a little different) that it took them several weeks to get full function back. The most I have heard anyone wearing a catheder was for 8 weeks. It was a slow recovery but they did get full function back. I believe their reason for having the catheder in for so long was due to swelling from surgery. If you were told that it could be from swelling or a small blood clot I would hope that's just the case. Maybe you need to recover from surgery to get full function back I don't know. I know you want this fixed now but I hope that your body will hurry up and get itself functioning again. Just a little info, after childbirth I was able to urinate but then it became not very much. I got cathederized and then after it came out I didn't have any more problems. My dr. said it was probably from the swelling that caused me to not be able to void. You're not alone. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers that things will get better for you.

i wish you good luck at your doctor again and please, let us know what he/she says. i hope too that it's just a swelling from surgery or blood clot issue and that before you know it, you'll be your old self again. no matter what, just let yourself heal and recover, no matter how long that takes.

Dr. says he will remove catheter Tuesday at 9:30 Am. Hopefully I will be able to urinate again. The jury is still out. He saya this is very rare and only occurs in older men with enlarged prostrates. My prostrate is normal and im 45. He has never seen this in someon so young, so he never warned me about it.

It sounds like the doctor is thinking postively, so i hope everything works out....and please, let us know as soon as you find out what is going on.

Well they removed the catheter today and I am able to piss again. It burns a lot and I can probably expect that for awhile as long as the stent is in place. Next hurdle is the stent removal Friday the 23rd.
_________
Dr. says that its possible the catheter was required because of the antisttic. He says rarely this happens to people under general ntithesia. In fact I found a friend at work that had this happen 20 years ago.
___
So now I know to avoid general anthesia unless its absolutely necessary.
___
This whole experience has been painful and stressful.
