I'm new here but wanted to share a little of my bizarre story. I had severe lower back pain which Dr. said was osteoarthritis (nothing else showed up on the MRI really) and was prescribed Bextra. It worked wonders and I could walk more than 1/2 block for awhile - lived on it for 3 months. Then something else happened which I know was the solution for me.
Believe it or not but my back pain was connected to tooth infection. Yes you read it right! Had a root canal and the pain immediately disappeared. It was unbelievable as I had had back pain for 5 years or more (off and on) but finally was getting so bad I could not even hardly walk. Has anyone else experienced this? Are you a person who has very sensitive teeth? Anytime my teeth were cleaned I ended up having a couple root canals. Anyway I was going to back specialists at the time and of course they said it was not possibly connected. Was good then for a few months, then had more tooth work done (dumb, yes I agree) and the pain came back 5 days later. Went to the dentist and on a hunch I asked him to give me a prescription for Pen V antibiotic as I was starting to suspect tooth infection. It took 5 days later to work but the pain disappeared and it has now been about 5 months free of back pain. It is so wonderful - a real miracle. My dentist told me that he had heard of upper back pain from tooth infection but not lower back. The Dr.'s just told me I would have to live with the arthritis and do exercises to help. The strange thing though was that I would feel somewhat relieved after a night's sleep and not feel stiff like I imagined arthritis to be like.
It was after I was up and moving that the pain would come back. I would get some relief when I sat down for a minute. The worst was walking, sweeping and vacuuming! Not sure why those motions were so bad for me.
I sure wish that all your pains could be given an antibiotic and you would feel no pain but I guess I was just fortunate. If my story can help anyone I will be happy for you. Get your teeth checked - maybe you have an infection in one and do not even know it. It might be worth trying Pen V (penicillin if not allergic to it) especially if you have had sensitive teeth. Remember that I went for at least 5 years off and on with pain and did not even realize I had deeper tooth problems. A friend told me that she works for a Dr. clinic and many people are prescribed antibiotics 2 -3 days before getting their teeth worked on (of course some of those probably need it to reduce the infection before a root canal) I have had lots of root canals as one would trigger others. Sorry this is so long. Lots more to the story but will cut it here.
I sympathize with your pain and hope that you will get some relief as pain is so debilitating.
