I was diagnosed with Iron Deficiency Anemia over a year ago. Even with supplements (Chromagen Forte), my counts still haven't improved much. I have a question for all the anemics out there: A few months ago, I noticed strange pin-size dots on my arms and chest--not a whole lot, but a few (especially on arms). When I brought it to the attention of my Hematologist, he didn't seem concerned and said we'd watch them for a few months (in April 2002). Has anyone else out there experienced this phenomena? Do you think I have anything to be concerned about? TIA for any answers you may have. Mari

Mari,
Your doctor is probably right about the wait and
see approach. It is possible this is a petechiae
rash. When was the last time you had your blood work
done (CBC). Was your platelet count > 150,000?
Petechiae can be caused by low platelet counts. My
wife had this problem, the rash looked like tiny red/
brown dots, not zillions, but a few dozen all
together. She had autoimmune hemolytic anemia and
thrombocytopenia (Evan's Syndrome). When her
platelet count came back to normal she didn't
get the rash anymore.
