Does anyone know what the difference is between the vicodin ES & HP. My prescription is 10/650 and when I check the internet I cannot tell the difference in the two????

Thank you.

Lind,

Actually, to the best of my knowledge, the script you received then is in fact Lorcet. Well, that's just a brand name, like the many others of Hydrocodone preps (Vicodin, Norco, Lortab, etc). Of course I don't know, but it's likely you have a generic bottle there anyway (like does it say "10 hydrocodone/650 apap" on it?)

It's just that I was on Lorcet for quite awhile a couple years ago, and that was the 10/650 combo. Vicodin ES (again, just the brand name) is the 7.5/750 combo (also what I, and many others, feel to be the worst Hydro prep to be on if you're taking meds long term, due to the fact that it's the highest amount of Tylenol of all the Hydro preps). And finally, I was only RX'd Vicodin HP once in all of my travails, but I'm pretty sure that prep is 10/500.

Hope that helps you!! :)

Sorry, I had another question. My doctor said he was given me one month supply but the prescription reads #30 - (1) pill 2x a day. Does that mean it's only for 15 days. Because wouldn't the number show #60?? I am confused. Thank you.

LIND,

If he gave you 30 pills and you are supposed to take 2 per day, then yes, that would only amount to 15 days. Obviously there's a mistake in there somewhere, whether it be what the doc told you, or the pharmacy printing the label, etc.

thanks. I will call my doctor because he gave me refills so it wouldn't make sense that it's 30 pills vs 30 days. I have yet to drop off the prescription and wanted to be sure its' correct.

Hi lind. If he specifically said this is a one months supply, although the pharamcay would calculate your script to be a 15 day supply based on the way it was written. You doc obviously intended this script to last one month. What this means is that on bad days you are allowed to take up to 2 pills per day,, However he's expecting you to have days where you don't need anything, making it a 30 day supply.

Calling him in 15 days asking for a refill would likely get you a stern reminder he expected these 30 pills to last you 30 days. You might try breaking a pill in half to stretch them out. It's not a time release med so breaking it will not effect the way it's released, it will just create a 5mg Vicodin with a little less tylenol.

Was this prescribed for break through pain or is this your only means of pain relief. If so, I would say the doc didn't get the message if you were trying to explain you have pain every day. Very sad doctors are strill so opiate phobic that he thinks if you take more than one vicodin a day you will become a hopeless drug addict.Time to find a new doc that listens. IMO
Good luck, Shore

Hi Shore,

I called the doctors office and "oops, he made a mistake" he thought I was taking (1) a day so I have to return the prescription and get a correct one. I am glad I asked. I purposely have him monitor the vicodin and I don't want more than 2 a day because I know they can be addictive. He once gave me enough for 4 a day with refills and I called back and cut it down to 2. As I want him to be aware that I don't abuse it. It helps me too much with not so much pain but it treats my IBS condition and allows me to lead a normal life.
Thanks for your reply.

You are with all probability the only person on the planet ever to have done that. :p Good for you.

Actually TrampyG there are probably quite a few of us that have done that, or asked for lower doses, me being one of them.
