farscape66 01-14-2004, 10:53 AM Stent removal on the 23rd. I'm getting nervous allready, I will be awake. What was it like for those who have had it done? wideawakeinaz 01-14-2004, 11:42 AM i was lucky because i didn't have to have a stent put in after all, but does your stent have a string or no string? i have heard, the string is a piece of cake, my doctor even told me, when i was supposed to have a stent in, that you might only feel a sting for a second or 2, but he said it's over just like that. i really hope that's how it is in your case. i know you have been having such a hard time over this whole thing. i really hope everything works out for you. for me...i'm starting to realize, either i'm not letting myself heal properly or something. i've noticed, i start to feel my bladder issues, most of the times, when i either shake my leg, move my legs while sleeping, or something, so now i'm starting to think, maybe moving my legs like that is distrubing the healing process. plus, i am anemic and overweight, so i think those have something to do with it too. i'm going back for a follow up though. but i will say this, even with what i'm feeling now, i can live with this....nothing like when the stones were in me. and yeah...i'm now laying on my sides again! finally making progress with that! farscape66 01-14-2004, 11:46 AM No string on mine, they have to go in with cyctscope to get it. Which scares me. serialnovelist 01-14-2004, 03:54 PM No string on mine, they have to go in with cyctscope to get it. Which scares me. ugghhh you poor guy. i had the string and it was a cake walk, just stung for a second or two. You should have demanded a string. I feel bad for ya like, ya haven't gone through enough already.. drink a ton of water so you don't have to go through this again. farscape66 01-14-2004, 04:16 PM ugghhh you poor guy. i had the string and it was a cake walk, just stung for a second or two. You should have demanded a string. I feel bad for ya like, ya haven't gone through enough already.. drink a ton of water so you don't have to go through this again. I have allways drank a ton of water, 10 glasses a day minimum, im pratically a fish. So that does not seem to help me. I had no choice on stent they used what they thought was appropriate. I think I would have found the string very bothersome. I am afraid I would have caught it on something and dislodged stent. serialnovelist 01-14-2004, 04:39 PM I am afraid I would have caught it on something and dislodged stent. nah it never would've happened, i put my string and stent through hell LOL It's a seriously tough bugger lol which is why it stings when they remove it. My urologist told me some some people have cut the string and some people for some reason had forgotten about thier stent completely, which i find hard to believe. The wierdest thing for me was the feeling of movement and freedom after it was removed. I didn't realize how much i felt it, until after it came out. As far as the drinking water thing, if that doesn't work for you, i've heard a magnesium supplement (which keeps your kidneys from leeching calcium from your bones to create stones) and a B complex Vitamin have helped people not make stones. I've also heard citrus helps, because it helps wash away the crystals in your kidney before they build up to make a stone. I'm taking both vitamins and drink citrus drinks in between the water. I guess exercise helps too. I hear TEA is one of the major culprits for stones. I never had any stones before i drank tea and the funny thing is i never had stones when i drank liquor. As soon as i quit drinking and swore off any kind of alcohol and carbonated drinks, i started getting stones, go figure huh ? farscape66 01-14-2004, 05:56 PM Well I have allways been a big iced tea drinker. that could be my problem. checkmate 01-15-2004, 08:38 AM No string on mine, they have to go in with cyctscope to get it. Which scares me. Thinking about it is much worse than it actually was. Some type of numbing gel was inserted into urethra prior to insertion of scope. No uncomfortable sensations when scope was inserted until just before entering bladder. Dr told me there would be slight pain and to take a deep breath. As I did so, he went the final inch or so, and there was sharp pain which probably lasted less than 1 sec. He got ahold of stent and in one quick motion both scope and stent were removed. I doubt that the whole procedure lasted even 1 minute. It really was not as bad as I had anticipated, and much better than the pain of the stone, or uncomfortable feeling I had while stent was in place. Good luck, and try not to worry about it,,,really,,,for me it was no big deal. farscape66 01-15-2004, 08:48 AM I hope that mine goes just as easy. Did you watch? I would be terrified to see it happen. They gave me a valium to take 30 minutes prior, if I want and can have someone to drive me home. Still deciding if I need the valium or not. Should I be a man and just take the torture or hide from it with the valium? checkmate 01-16-2004, 08:26 AM Wasn't really able to see much. Was laying on back and with both Dr and nurse leaning over me, could see very little. I did not have valium, and when finished drove myself back to work. I know everyone is different, but for me I would not classify it as torture. No worse than going to the dentist,,,,now there's something I dread!!! farscape66 01-16-2004, 09:30 AM This may be worse than the dentist. I usually have sedation during dentistry. I hope it was at least quick?, How long did it take for the process? checkmate 01-16-2004, 01:56 PM How long did it take for the process? From the time I got on the table until I got off was probably less than a few minutes. Most of that time was spent replacing a bulb on the scope that had burnt out! Actual procedure took less one minute. farscape66 01-16-2004, 02:54 PM How would you rate your pain/discomfort level from 1-10 ? checkmate 01-17-2004, 08:41 AM How would you rate your pain/discomfort level from 1-10 ? Nothing at all compared to the pain I had from the stone itself. Most of procedure was probably a 1-2, with a very brief second where it might have gotten up to a 5. farscape66 01-17-2004, 09:48 AM Nothing at all compared to the pain I had from the stone itself. Most of procedure was probably a 1-2, with a very brief second where it might have gotten up to a 5. Good to know, Friday at 1:30 cannot come fast enough for me. I cant wait till this is all over. Talk about a nightmare! |
